Subject: good div 4 manager looking for active new player who needs help.

2009-09-30 01:08:45
thanks for the advice but im already doing all of this that u have said. my apparently "bad mentor" told me about it a while back and it has been in my long term plans the whole time. i have been working on getting a coach who only has unearthly pace training and thats it. with the assistants as all solid hopefully. i worked it out that now i have my stadium as it is i am making a small profit when u take the away league weeks losses away from the home league weeks profits. this is where i want to be. then once i have trained some young slow players in pace i will sell them again hopefully for a profit whilst working 6 places in the youth academy with a solid coach also (i know not good enough but better than nothing) the intention is to replace the players as they retire with my best youth or players i have bought with money gained from selling youth i have worked on. there is no chance i could fund this without my stadium being this big otherwise i would be makin massive losses. my mentor isnt bad at all and he has helped me alot. i wouldnt be close to where i am now without him helping me. he also suggested what i am doin for my long term plan. my current team is merely to get established and promotion is a bonus.

I'm sorry, I'm just reeling from being called a smurf the other day...

Look through everything I've said and there isn't an insult to be found - just cold, hard advice, and the repeated suggestion that you're not the right person to mentor anyone. If you would like my respect then don't offer to teach others when you've shown you don't know how to set up a training regime from the start, and stop trumpeting your 2-month achievements as a defence for your offer.

Fair enough I'll leave you to it then. ;)

Good luck.

well maybe u should consider that there are other ways than "your way". you havent insulted me in so many words but i find many of ur comments as badly disguised insults and meant to be a slight on me.
im not impressed by your attitude. others here are showing how it should be done if u deem urself worthy to tell players what to or not to do. take their lead.

thanks m8 i appriciate it. i made a start on gettin good youth already. i got this dude pretty cheap and hes amazin for me now but once i am trainin pace he could easily be very good for me if i get premoted. hes my main project atm but is meant to replace my oldest player once he retires but when i saw him goin for the price he was i jumped at the chance.

Of course there are other ways, and part of the fun of sokker is that different methods can succeed. Unfortunately, there are certain ways to fail, and when you've stuck around here long enough you'll know what I mean. Going by what you've said, you don't appear to be in danger of bankruptcy (which is one trap newbies fall into), but I, and others, fear for your future - and the future of anyone you advise.

As for my attitude, I didn't join the forums offering assistance within 2 months of starting, tell an experienced user that having a training regime or a youth school in IV was unaffordable, or proclaim myself a great manager after beating bot teams with better players. For the record, I made some mistakes when I first joined, but got a few things right and have progressed ok since. If you hadn't offered to share your wisdom with new managers - I'd have kept quiet. Otherwise, I'll speak freely just like you can.

seeing as im not gonna go bankrupt, have good tactics (never have i said im a great manager and there are no bot teams with better players than me.) and i have a long term plan which only u disagree with i am surely not gonna fail at this. sure my method has its risks but if i do it right its as valid as urs. in fact i already helped someone struggling in another div 4. he had best players but was drawing and losing against bots. hes now winning comfortably. im not mentoring him but i jus helped him out with hes tactics and selections. this can hardly be a bad thing. i have also helped him make variations of the formations to further suit hes team depending on opponent. i know it doesnt make me mentor extrordinaire but i made a difference. nothing u say will make me stop helping people. i pick things up alot faster than most.

and as for ur attitude u do come on here spouting about how i shouldnt help people. as u said some people fail at this game and thats why i should offer help. i havent failed, am not failing and until i do u cant tell me otherwise.

Assisting people with tactics is fair enough, getting to grips with them is a good start. I notice you refuse to identify your mentor(s) or these people you assist though - any particular reason for that?

And, I didn't just spout about why you shouldn't help people - I offered reasons why you shouldn't too! I don't blame you for thinking differently, and if you can help other users enjoy the game then great. If & when you prove me wrong then get in touch. And, if you decide you need help, I'll be there to assist to. :)

yeah thanks for that. i dont say the names because its up to my mentor if he is mentioned as i dont want him to be linked to u sayin hes a bad mentor. the guy i helped is on my contacts called Wato and he has a team called the cheese wizards. if u look a few weeks ago he was drawing and losing against bots then jus after he changes formation (to much like a mutilated and unfinished version of my 4-4-2/4-1-2-1-2 formation i used about 3-4 weeks ago) its coz i helped him make it and although its not quite finished it still does the business just about. check hes games if u like.
i now use my 3-4-3/3-1-2-1-3 as theres no point in having 4 defenders against most of the teams in my division when i can have another striker and hopefully jus have that little more creativity. it seems to have worked so far as i have a massive gap in my goals scored to conceded.

I'm admittedly unimpressed by some of the advice you seem to have received from your mentor, but if they'd like to defend themselves then get them to mail me. I'm not gonna get started on all that again though.

A quick look at The Cheese Wizards shows a decent tactical change. Moving strikers to the centre will work well against two centre-backs far apart, so that's promising. I like a straight back-line in defence too, and getting someone to switch away from custom tactics and experiment a bit is good. That said, the opposition has been very poor, and they've won every league game except one - in which they seem to have been a bit unlucky! The tactics are a step in the right direction though, so fair play on that front.

well im sure all the bad choices i have made were by me. i only rele ask him stuff when i need to know and am pretty self sufficient as far as playin the game goes. as for the cheese wizards tactics: im still not happy with them at all. i sent him pics and stuff of mine in all different areas and he seems to have not kept the formation tight enough. in division 4 u rarely see wingers who do more than put the ball out every time, which is why my defence is so narrow. watos is too spaced out and my strikers could probably easily run straight through the gaps. as for the front two they are closer together than i said he should have them and they seem to keep gettin in eachothers way and are so close that if u r markin one then u are as good as markin them both. im facing a division 2 side 2moro in my friendly league so maybe u can get a better idea of my skill level then. last game i only lost 2-1 to a division 3 established player playing hes best striker. i will lose tomorrow and i know this but its the margin i am interested in.
2009-09-30 03:28:35
and i also know the opposition was poor he was against but its still a significant difference in results and performances before and after.

I forgot to acknowledge that you speak sense, and that you'd probably make a fine mentor going by that post. Keep it up!

You make many valid points about tactics - I'm sure your work on them will serve you well for a while...

until you meet a player who has done some training and now has players 10x as good as you in all positions. Then you will be crushed

Your mentor.. wouldn't happen to be kwazulu would it?? :-)
2009-09-30 18:10:03
well yeah obv if i face someone that much better than me then i dont hope to win rele do i. i always play for damage limitation if i believe i stand little chance of winning. today i face div 2 team and its gonna be interesting. however the basic short and long term plan was to get established, get fans and maximise my weekly income before i move onto training so that then i can definately afford it whilst still making hopefully a small profit seasonally on non player sale income
