Subject: Newbie Coach Setup

Sgod [del] to All
Thought I'd share some thoughts on this subject :)

Coach setup can seem a little complicated to start with, but is the first thing that needs to be sorted out properly when you get your new team.

Once your coaches are in place then you have plenty of time to look at your team, tactics, training plan, trainees etc before you need to go back and change anything.

I reckon it is well worth committing a fair chunk of your starting cash to recruiting these coaches, so my advice is to get them through "Transfers" and then "Trainers".
This way you will get exactly what you want and need!

The type of coaches I have picked out are in the low end of the wage bracket for that level of coach.

So a few ideas:

Main Head Coach for the first 4 to 6 weeks should be a stamina coach. Your whole team will need stamina training to begin with, and training this attribute takes no specific thought about what tactics you are using.
All players will train in stamina, whether they play or not.

So go to the trainer transfer selection screen and use the parameters of;

Max wage: 4 000 £
Stamina at least unearthly
Stamina at most unearthly

You will see plenty of this type of coach;

Artzai Angulo Valderrey, age: 41,
wage: 3 585 £ country: España
weak coach

Training effectiveness:
unearthly of stamina, poor of keeper
tragic of pace, unsatisfactory of defender
weak of technique, poor of playmaker
unsatisfactory of passing, unsatisfactory of striker

You will probably need to be on-line at the deadline time to successfully win the bidding and secure a coach.
This particular coach will not cost very much.

Now you will need a Junior Coach.
Most would say that their junior school is an important and exiting part of their club set-up.
So my advice is to spend a little cash an secure a coach with a General Appraisal of Excellent.

So go to the trainer transfer selection screen and use the parameters of;

Max wage: 4 200 £
Coach at least excellent
Coach at most excellent

You will find a few coaches which look like this;

Gilberto Caturla, age: 35,
wage: 4 005 £ country: España
excellent coach

Training effectiveness:
formidable of stamina, adequate of keeper
good of pace, very good of defender
formidable of technique, outstanding of playmaker
incredible of passing, good of striker

These types of coaches will cost around £50/60K, which is a fair whack to lay out at the start of your journey.
My reasoning as why this is a decent investment is that your juniors will progress nicely.
Also when you come to upgrade your JC in a season or two you can use this same coach as a permanent assistant coach due to the nice low wage!
Of course if you do not want to make as big an investment in your JC to begin with, just adjust the search parameters to find a coach with a lower General Appraisal :)

You may employ up to 3 Assistant Coaches who will basically boost the training effectiveness of your HC.

I personally am not sure of the usefulness of this at this stage of a teams training, so I wouldn't bother with them at this time.
I think AC's come into their own when the HC has multiple high level attributes, and where the general training a team gets during the week can produce extra level-ups in skills not being specifically trained.

Others will not agree maybe but I don't think they are worth thinking about till a major upgrade in you HC occurs!

If you do want to go for a couple of AC's anyway then maybe something like this would be ok;

Max wage: 1 400 £
Coach at least good
Coach at most good

Lots of coaches like this are available;

Bożydar Woronicz, age: 34,
wage: 1 335 £ country: Polska
good coach

Training effectiveness:
adequate of stamina, adequate of keeper
adequate of pace, solid of defender
solid of technique, good of playmaker
weak of passing, excellent of striker

These will be cheap to buy.

After training stamina, you will have had a chance to look at your team properly and should decide what to train next.

So you will want to sack your stamina coach and get a new HC.
I will just say here, that if you are not totally sure what to do at this point, training pace is a good option.

Every player that plays your two games during the week will receive training, and again you do not have to play a certain type of tactic to maximise your training.

So go to the trainer transfer selection screen and use the parameters of;

Max wage: 4 000 £
Pace at least unearthly
Pace at most unearthly

There will be lot of coaches like this;

Brando Manfredi, age: 39,
wage: 3 555 £ country: Italia
weak coach

Training effectiveness:
poor of stamina, tragic of keeper
unearthly of pace, hopeless of defender
unsatisfactory of technique, hopeless of playmaker
average of passing, poor of striker

You can just substitute "pace" for "defending", "passing" etc in the search parameters, to find a low wage coach to train what you want!

After a few seasons, when you have more weekly cash coming in, you will be able to afford a coach like this...

Harry Redknapp, age: 56,
wage: 30 975 £ country: England
unearthly coach

Training effectiveness:
unearthly of stamina, unearthly of keeper
unearthly of pace, unearthly of defender
unearthly of technique, unearthly of playmaker
unearthly of passing, unearthly of striker

...and never have to worry about getting another one again :)

As an alternative to the excellent advice above, I would recommend recruiting your initial Head Coach for Stamina training through the coach recruitment tab - which can be found on the right of the Training page. When asked to select skills, set Stamina to Magical (note: Unearthly and Divine are in red as they cannot be searched for) and every other skill to Unsatisfactory (note: Tragic and Hopeless are also in red & cannot be searched for). Click on Next. If you've done this right, you should be offered the option to recruit a coach with this criteria for £3,450. This can be considerably cheaper than buying from the Transfer List - BUT it does NOT guarantee you will get a perfect trainer. Generally though, you will be offered an ideal candidate on your first search. Be sure to set him as head coach if he fits the bill, but ensure he is sacked if he doesn't - otherwise you'll have to pay his next week's wages on Saturday morning.

Although this guide is slightly anti "in-house coach promotion", and I'm not mad about assistants to begin with (there are good arguments to the contrary for both), it still explains how to do the whole coach set-up thing either way.

So I am bumping it.

interesting points from both.

i got my stamina coach out of the skills select in my first pull so cost 3.5k about the same as the market price. I had to use skill select as i don't have time to wait for deadlines.

Up.

Very nice guide :)

But is it worth buying this kind of coach just in order to "not worry about getting another one"?

Juande Ramos, age: 56,
wage: 30 975 £ country: España
unearthly coach

Training effectiveness:
unearthly of stamina, unearthly of keeper
unearthly of pace, unearthly of defender
unearthly of technique, unearthly of playmaker
unearthly of passing, unearthly of striker
2008-05-20 09:15:45
I would want him!

i think the "not worry about another one" is just a small part of it. this sort of coach is so desirable because of the high level of random pops you would expect from general training.
2008-05-20 11:30:49
He is the best coach you could get, but then I'm a bit biased ;)
2008-05-20 12:33:16
Yes, you are.
2008-05-20 14:58:18
Better than the fat-headed Dutchman tho...

Ha! do not f**k with Bas Rutten!!!
2008-05-21 13:23:45
There's no way I would. He's a very amusing, yet very scary character.

All new managers who registered should read this!
