so from my understanding is that the better the skills your head coach is the more random pops you will have? does this matter for the skill sets of your assistants as well? or is it just the general appraisal that matters?

For assistants, general appraisal is all that matters. However, take note that when you are a new team and can't afford a head coach with all of the skills you want to train (striker, tech and pace, for example), you can hire assistants with those skills so you can rotate them to head coach when needed.

damn. i was hoping assistants would help in random pops too....seeing how my head coach is 'poor' besides the unearthly pace which i train. i guess i have to switch it up through out the season :(

I'm not sure if having assistants with one unearthly skill to alternate as main coach is such a good idea. An assistant, say solid with one unearthly skill, will cost more than a similar solid assistant with no high skills. You would always overpay for assistants. It may be a minimal difference for people in higher leagues but a big one in C. I would simply fire the main coach and hire a new one when you decide to train another skill. And remember, to minimize your costs when firing/hiring your coaches, always fire after Thursday training update but before Saturday money update, and hire after Saturday update but before training.

There you hit on the problem... hiring and firing coaches is also an expense. If you have assistants that can be switched into the head coach role, you're not hiring and firing whenever you change training.

ben's right. its much more cost effective to avoid the recruiting of coaches any time you wanna switch skills. the effective difference on training between an assistant who is adequate and one who is solid, can at most be called marginal at anyrate, so having more expensive aqeduate overall assistants with a single unearthly skill isn't much terribly different than having a equally priced solid assistant.

You guys have a point but it alldepends on how often you change training. I just scanned through solid coaches on TL and a typical salary was around $4-4.5K while the cheapest with one unearthly skill I found was with $7 salary. If you don't change training too often you may save enough to compensate for the cost of firing/hiring...
