Subject: Time to sell players

Lovely [del] to All
I've seen a few references on the forums to some times of day/week being better than others for selling players, as far as getting a better price for them. Anyhow, I'm getting ready to sell players, so what times are best?

My thoughts:

Day
Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday are usually the best days. Young borderline players often sell better on Wednesdays (pre-friendly). In contrast, I find Monday, Tuesday and Friday the best days to buy players.

Time
14:00 - 22:00 are the busiest hours with respect to on-line users. I've had good luck 16:00 - 20:00. Seems to me this is when most premium players are sold.

Other points:

- try not to list when the matches of big nations are running. The server is taxed the most at this time and is occasionally a little sluggish.

- try not to list several valuable players at the same time. If Sokker is for some reason inaccessible at that moment your losses are compounded.

- try to drum up some interest before hand with [S] (sale) threads and transfer announcements. If you have Plus, you can also make a media announcement on your club page for some added publicity.

- prices are generally better at the start of the season. Not necessarily the first week or two - there tends to be a lot of “supply” these weeks. I try to sell weeks 3-6, and look to buy weeks 11-15.

Reserve Price

- lots of people will recommend a reserve price. I've never listed for more then the minimum - I find the fee for the reserve price (think it's 4%) a little prohibitive. There is a clear element of risk when listing at the minimum though - many are wary of this and see the cost of a reserve price as acceptable. (Note: even if you have arranged a price beforehand with another manager, you might still consider a reserve price. Sokker rules and staff do not enforce private arrangements.)

What about off season? Not the good time to sell, right?

IMO, this is the time to buy, not sell. I saw some nice bargains this weekend past.

It seems to make sense that there might be a week 15 market - desperate teams buying ringers for Q-matches. I've tried selling then before and been very disappointed. The buyers that are in the market may be motivated, but there doesn't seem to be enough of them to drive prices.

Personally, I wouldn't consider selling until the new season.

Am I really going to make up the difference in salary, for a player like Belanger (see my Transfers thread)? I'd have to be sure I'm getting an extra $15,000 for him to hold on to him for another 6-7 weeks.

It's really hard to say at the end of the skill spectrum. You could be right.
