Starting to work on the finer points of strategy now...
Other things being equal, is it worth my while to hang on to an extra trainee for when someone is injured, or should I stick with a 22-man (16-man, 14-man) roster and just forgo the training? I was working with a 23-man roster for a while now and was injury-free, so of course the week that I sell off my spare, I get a 14-day injury.
Of course, this will depend in part on the general injury rate. Has anyone worked out what sort of injury rate would make the cost (extra salary) worth the benefit (extra training)?

If you are training pace with a 22 man roster then you could pick up an extra player for this week...what I would do is buy a nice young player that you want to keep and sell off a player, that you dont really want, maybe one who has just popped, after training. Of course, it takes a lot of time to find good players at reasonable prices, especially with talent such an unknown in sokker.
Always try to retain talented players!

That doesn't really answer my question, which was, "in the long run, is keeping a spare trainee a waste of money or not?" You didn't really say anything in there that I don't already know.
- No... I've got 23 men this season and averaging 1 injury a week so far, so it's not a waste
- Yes... because last season I had maybe only 2 or 3 injuries
In the long run what really matter is how tight your bum really is.. an extra player doesnt really kill your budget especially if he's a trainee.

Well I think that the question is kinda crazy...what with youth trainees constantly coming into the club and with upgrading of players to help your team compete, the team roster is in constant fluxuation. Sometimes 22 is right and sometimes 23 is right and right now, for my team 14 is right (maybe 15). You are not really a newbie anymore are you?
If you are training pace then I would strongly suggest 23 man roster, when you are training sth else I like to trim it down a bit, because there is quite a few players not receiving training
