mee too ;) Next match is more important than those against Colombia and Uruguay
I tried another tactic inspired by the best team in the country, Real San Rafael C.F. and one of my rivals, Armed n Loaded, in playing against a stronger team. I know that it was risky to play with a tactic that I am not really familiar with but somehow it worked but it wasn't enough. I know that Belgie's midfield and attack will be strong so I decided to play with 4 defenders and 3 defensive midfielders then rely on counter attacks with our two forward and our winger. Unfortunately for us, their good defense made it difficult for our team to get the final pass right. More than that, the mistakes of our defenders (the conceded penalty and the red card) made it even more difficult. And with that, 3rd place is the highest possible rank we can achieve and I hope that we will be able to do it :)

Good performance from our U27 team :D Great game for Maggay for his great saves, but good work also to our defenders. Iran has a very tough defense (0-1 vs Vietnam and 1-2 vs Spain) and a very dangerous counter-attack. Good work also to our midfield (who played without Martinez and Aguilar who are injured and without San Miguel and Austria who are rested for the world cup qualifiers) and also to our forwards, Tukodlangit and Pamintuan, the goal scorer. This shows great promise to the future of the team, most of them I have worked with when I was U21 coach. Here are some statistics:
Average age: 23.9 for Pilipinas, 27.2 for Iran
Average value: P8.3M for Pilipinas (P7.3M without keeper), P11M for Iran (P9M without keeper)
Next match: WCQ vs Colombia
Last 2 matches for the WCQ, I hope we can finish 3rd place :D

Great work from our team, especially our goalkeeper :) It may have not been the prettiest of tactics but we were able to get a draw :D and it is way better than the first meeting between the two countries, where we lost 1-5. The next match is very crucial, a draw or a win means that we finish 3rd but if we lose, it will depend on goal difference which would more likely favor Uruguay. I'm excited and nervous about the upcoming match vs O'zbekiston because they are a stronger team than expected and the coach has good tactics :)

For the next game I am wishing you a big win!
Thanks! I hope that that will happen but it would be very difficult XD
The match vs O'zbekiston is a very exciting (and very scary for me) match. As expected, O'zbekiston will give us a difficult time because of their coach's tactical ability. I was worried when the first goal happened but thankfully our players were able to come back. Our midfield, especially the attacking midfielders (Burton and Gutierrez) did very well to create goal scoring chances. Our defenders, defensive midfielders and goalkeeper were able to defend well most of the time and did a great job. Being a lone striker against a team playing with 5 defenders is difficult but our forwards were able to convert the very few chances we had against the strong defense.
This win means that we finish at 3rd place in the group :D

Great game from our U27 team against Prathet Thai's U27 (+1 33 y/o player) :D I didn't really expect that scoreline, considering that the match statistics are almost equal. Great work to all the players, both in defense and offense!

This is for you, to remember the great job you have done this season.
First time for NT Pilipinas 3rd place, for me a milestone :)
First time for NT Pilipinas 3rd place, for me a milestone :)
Thanks! Glad I could achieve 3rd place results in the world cup qualifiers for both NT and U21 :D I wish you can beat my record with the U21 :P
I'm not really happy with the result but there are still some good signs from the results. We played using our U28 team vs Senegal's U28 team whose tactics made it very difficult for our team to attack. A defensive error caused us the goal but an on form Pamintuan was able to end the match with a draw.
The good signs in the match?
1. There is a huge gap between the best Filipino forwards in terms of age. Vicente, Cagas and Santa Maria are the main three forwards of the Philippines for a long time but are now 31 years old. The next decent forwards but are not really NT quality yet are 29 year old Racela and Paca (who has never played for the NT). Fortunately, Tukodlangit (25 y/o) and Pamintuan (24 y/o) show very great potential as the future goal scorers of the Philippines.
2. Overall, the country has a lot of young players that can actually play in important matches without sacrificing quality. This is a good sign because there seems to be a gap in the players' ages where we lack a lot of good quality players from 27 to 30 years old. All NT 28 year old players are actually keepers! The best example for an U26 player that can play with the veterans is Archie Austria, a mainstay in the midfield. While Liman, Layugan, Maggay and Pamintuan are just some of the young players that also bring a lot of quality to the team at such a young age.
3. Although not related to the match, there are also U23 players that may already participate in senior matches. In this match, Manganon played. Sudiacal also seems to have great potential and may soon be part of the squad.

Next week: Friendly vs Indonesia
Last match as NT manager :) Indonesia's coach and I agreed on playing with the best possible team we can play. I expected a very exciting equal game because I know that Indonesia is a very strong team, but winning 4-0 makes me even happier :D
In terms of age and player value in this match, Pilipinas and Indonesia are almost equal, with a little advantage to Indonesia:
First team age: Pilipinas - 30, Indonesia - 29.5
All participants' age: Pilipinas - 29.8, Indonesia - 29.5
First team value: Pilipinas - P13.3M, Indonesia - P13.7M
All participants' value: Pilipinas - P13.8M, Indonesia - P13.7M
*This is because one of our subs was a goalkeeper
Outfielders' value: Pilipinas - P11.8M, Indonesia - P12.2M
Coincidentally, my first international match as Pilipinas U21 coach was also against igo batra's Indonesia U21, where we won 2-1 and Archie Austria also played in the match with an assist. Agung Yakin from Indonesia also played both matches.
Once again, thank you for the support and I hope that you were happy with what I did :D

Formation - 4231
4231 is the formation of choice for this squad because of the number of great midfielders and forwards the team has to offer. With the wings as the main route of attack, the center midfielders provide the excellent passes and additional support to the defense, while the wingers provide crosses to forwards, which score a lot of goals through crosses and through balls.
Goalkeeper - Johnny Cruz
Choosing the best goalkeeper for the season is very difficult as all of them did well. The Real San Rafael C.F. keeper, stood out a little bit because he played in important matches and had many great saves to keep the scoreline low.
Centerbacks - Ryan Cojuangco and Wynne de la Paz
Veteran defenders Cojuangco and de la Paz easily made it into the list as they were the perfect pair to man the center of defense. With their experience, they were able to give the opponents' forwards difficult time in getting clear shots on goals. They are no doubt two of the best Filipino defenders.
Fullbacks - Asi Mendez and Nino Ramos
In contrast to the experienced centerbacks, Mendez and Ramos are relatively new player in the senior national team but both provided excellent defense against wingers, helped the centerbacks and also provided great passes from the wings.
Defensive Midfielders - Leo Abulog and Phil Noble
Veterans Leo Abulog and Phil Noble made it to the list because of their great passing and defending skills. They provide additional support to the defense and give great passes to the wingers and excellent through balls to the forward. Noble has been a starter for most of the season, while Abulog, although one of the best defensive midfielders in Philippine history, played only later because of form problems.
Attacking Midfielder - Philip San Miguel
Philip San Miguel wins this position because besides providing great passes and assists, he can also score goals. Unfortunately, he was injured mostly this season, he was still chosen over Jay Burton.
Wingers - Archie Austria and Melvin Isip
Two contrasting players in terms of age and experience, but both are very effective wingers that provide scoring opportunities with their lightning speed and excellent crosses. Alongside other wingers Leo Salazar and Jireh Chuchu, they provided the attack in 4231 formation.
Forward - Chris Vicente
Being an only forward is a difficult job but Vicente and second choice Cagas were able to do well by beating the offside trap with their experience and pace, be able to attack the through balls and crosses provided by the midfield with their shooting and heading skills.
SUBSTITUTES
Jay Maliit was chosen to be the second best goalkeeper for the season in what was a very tight competition as all goalkeepers did well. Like Cruz, he also played in very important matches, making important saves. J.R. Quinahan is the substitute defender, who also did well but unfortunately for him, the back 4 was almost constant throughout the season. Attacking midfielder Jay Burton also made it to the list and is a really great back-up for the injury-plagued San Miguel. Leo Salazar, on the other hand, a young winger, provided great assists and proved to be a good replacement for Austria and Isip. Finally, Cagas finishes the list as Vicente's substitute who also provides great goals for the team.
