Abel Cabungcal is MVP once again! He indeed played very well and his performance earned him a place in my starting eleven. And in the last league match he was involved in all three goals of his team (including one assist and one "almost assist").
2015-10-09 19:04:50
I like to see U21 players play on the first team. They get 20% more training, they popup 20% faster, their selling value can raise to 20x higher and sometimes they also keep constant form 18 (superdivine), like Abel Cabungcal :)

He is the leader of the active players on the MVP chart.
2015-10-10 03:18:45
You played with a very high defence line and so could India score an easy goal. Would it be wiser to play lower defence?
To be honest, I don´t know. The result of the high defence was that India had only two realistic chances to score and they did it once after the lost ball of Guiang.
On the other hand, I don´t know how many chances they would have, if we had a lower defence line.

I know the difficulty in choosing the right positioning for the defense. Playing in a high defensive line would be helpful if you have very quick defenders that have good tactical discipline, or else if the offside trap fails or any other mistake occurs, it would be difficult for the defenders to get the ball back.

On the other hand, a very low defensive line or like what some coaches do, the defensive line that stays back (which I believe you do sometimes) is the complete opposite of that. However, I think this would need the help of the midfielders, especially against opponents who have forwards that can shoot from a long distance.

What I usually do depends on the opponent. I play higher lines against weaker or sometimes same level opponents while I play deeper lines against stronger opponents. It would also depend on the players that are available and the tactics the opponent use :)

Mr Tsolias, what about the game?
I expected from Cameroun a strong organized, a strong goalkeeper and a very strong and in best form striker. At this stage my target was to organize our defence in such a way, that the opposite striker will not get chances. I think we succeeded in this part 100%. I am very glad that our opponents had just only one small chance.

And what about your team?
As I told, I am very satisfied about the way we defended. On the other hand I am a little bit concerned about the fact that most of our defenders (Guiang, Mauban, Musni, Sugcang) are 21. On week 2, we will see if this art of defending has the same results with our younger and weaker defenders.

And what about the creative part, the midfield and the strikers?
They are 19 or 20 years old. Just give them some more time to improve their skills and you will see wonderful things.

Our team reached an average mark of over 50. What do you think about it?
I am excited and a big smile is on my face. This is a sign, that most of our players receive a very good training. You can congratulate their managers!
Additionally I want to point out, that we could not reach this mark on my first 2 seasons in Pilipinas. We reached the 50 mark on my third season on week 13 and on the past season on week 10. Today, on week 0, I am really positive surprised!
Really surprised to have such a performance against a team which currently is on U21 national teams rank 34. This shows how far we can go.

What about next game, against Česká republika?
Česká republika is one of the best teams in sokker world and they wanted a strong testgame before the World Cup begins. So they decided to play against one of the future powerteams of sokker, against the Azkals!
Ha ha ha! Ortwin is the manager of our top talent Abel Cabungcal. He is assisting the team of Česká republika U21 and he wanted this friendly. I could not resist to do such a favour :)

Press Conference

Today, it was a gala game. First person to be interviewed is the Czech coach, it is Mr Ostulc.
Mr Ostulc, what about the game?
Matches against opponents that are quite weak on the paper are always difficult and unpredictable. In the match the difference in the quality of the players is much less pronounced and except for some flashy moments, no one would say our players are significantly better. The match against your team was of no exception. We have created some chances but we have failed in converting our chances into goals as usual.
Furthermore you have made a big effort with your team. At the first sight, I thought that the setup of your defense will be clumsy and Uvidal should have a lot of space to operate on. In fact he wasn't able to benefit from that - and in the end you have just improved the control over the midfield :-)

Did you expected the team of Pilipinas U20 beeing so tough?
I did. I have had quite some troubles playing against weaker team. Players of the weaker team have great determinacy to grasp a good result, on the other hand players on the other side somehow feel that the victory comes on itself.

Somebody heard the oponent coach, Mr Tsolias, saying "It was not a penalty! What an idiot the referee..". What is your opinion about the penalty which was given by the referee and Česká republika made with it the winning goal?
I know that such a call of the referee is quite disappointing. But let's be fair - that was one of the brighter moments of our team and Philippine players did not know where the ball was going. No wonder that they started kicking our players instead of the ball :-P

One of the best players of the team of Pilipinas U21, Abel Cabungcal plays at local team SK Tatra Smíchov. Today he was well defended. Nevertheless he made some very dangerous passes. Do you think that Česká republika is the best place for young talented players?
There are teams all over the world that can provide wonderful conditions for talented youngsters. Ortwin's team is definitely one of the best places for such players to stay. But one thing is clear - there is at least one team in Czech Republic such that every Ortwin's player would like to join ;-) (Ortwin would probably object though)

How far do you think Pilipinas U21 can go in the next 2-3 seasons?
I think that small countries with coaches dedicated to their job can go very far. I would say that the situation of Philippines is somewhat similar to Cyprus in the time I was coaching them. At the beginning the team was really crap, but in few seasons we were already balancing of getting in the World Cup Finals and staying at the home. Unfortunately we always had to stay at home. I hope you can go in these footsteps and be more successful in the final moments! :-)

What shall we expect from your team in the World Cup, which starts in 2 weeks?

To be honest, I don't know. Apart from 2 players, our U21 generation is really weak and we have to rely on many U20 players - which does not make our prospects shine. But on the other hand we have got one of the easier groups to play in so that we can hope for going through. In the final matches, we would likely be underdogs on the paper - as you were in our friendly. And in such a case everything is possible. So let's hope for the miracles :-)

During the U21 World Cup, there is also a U20 Mini World Cup. Which 3 teams do you think can win the U20MWC?

I would say that three teams that has the higher chances for the win are Greece, Canada and Denmark. I wouldn't disregard Vietnam though - in comparison with the last season they are having a reasonable coach. Actually it would have been great if Vietnam made it as my Cuong would likely be celebrating.

Finally one last question: Please tell us 3 teams which can win the coming World Cup?
This question is even more tough. I would say that one of the greatest candidates for the victory is the team of Romania - in the qualification they were using his current U21 generation quite with success against opponents older by one year. The remaining two teams are quite a mystery. I would say that Italy and Poland could have some chances.

Děkuji, thank you very much Mr Ostulc and good luck in the World Cup!

Next to me is Mr Ortwin, the manager of the club SK Tatra Smíchov. The star-player of Pilipinas U21 plays and trains at SK Tatra Smíchov and todays game was at his local arena, at the Tatra Arena.

Mr Ortwin, you are coaching Abel Cabungcal. What do you think about his performance today, playing at the stadium of his own team?
I think he did what he could. I did not expect miracles from him as he is only 19 years old and he played against the best U20 players from the Czech republic. But one thing realyy pleased me, Abel had higher mark (47) than Kryštof Grummich (44) who is the best 19 yo Czech midfielder.

What shall we expect of this player till next season?
From the training point of view: He will work on his pace, technique and defender skills. But I also hope he will perform well at U20 Mini WC and other friendly matches, especially against Slovenija and Israel. Finally he will most likely become one of the most important players of Tatra as I plan to sell at least one key midfielder.

What was your feeling when he was substituted in the 90´th minute and the whole stadium interrupted the game for 3 minutes to give frenetic standing ovations?
It was a nice moment, fans clearly love him!

Did you expect his development, when you bought him for your club, for SK Tatra Smíchov?
He was 16 years old when I bought him and I was not sure he would have top talent as his graph from youth school was not the nicest one I have ever seen. But I was willing to take the risk and he pleasantly surprised me.

Were you satisfied with performance of your top player Karel Uviďál?
Not entirely, Uviďál's mark reached 58 points, but he did not deserve it. On the other hand, he played 35 minutes as a wing even though he is rather center or defensive midfielder. When he moved to the centre, his performance improved. Unfortunately we don't have any strong 20yo winger at the moment.

Thank you very much, děkuji!

Finally some questions to the person managing the Azkals; Mr Tsolias, what about the game?
I want to thank the Czech community for beeing hospitable hosts. I enjoyed this game, I think it is a nice result.

Mr Ortwin said that the average mark 44.6 is quite high for Pilipinas U20 at the beginning of the season, is it right?
Absolutely yes! It´s a good sign and there are still some more things to do. I will talk about them in the near future.

Somebody heard you, saying "It was not a penalty! What an idiot the referee..". What´s your comment about this?

I want to wish you a good night. I think you´d better enjoy the gala-atmosphere, here in Smichow, and drink some nice cold beer... Good bye to everybody and my best wishes to the czech community for a joyfull season! :)

It was a nice game to watch :D I always like reading the post match interviews hehe, especially in this match, about the penalty haha

I'm also glad that one of the best players of the U21 is from my youth school and I am also surprised because his talent in the youth school was not so good XD

Mr Tsolias, what about the game?
I was surprised by 2 things. I expected Scotland to be stronger and I did not expected our team to reach a higher mark than in last week´s game. I am confident about the way we defended and I think everything in this game went in accordance with the plan I had.

Why do you point out the reached average mark of 46.8?
I like to measure things in measurable data. It makes for me a big difference to say we reached a mark of 53.6, than just to say "we are stronger", even if I know that the mark is just an indication. The proof is allways the final result.

Why did you used just 2 substitutes and not 3?
A third one, of Alcazar was planed. He would play if we led by 2 goals...

Next week starts the "Mamma mia"-U20- Mini World cup. You told on the U20MWC-forum favorites are Hellas, Chile and Cuba. Any changes?
Yes :) Perhaps you know it, I am the person who organizes the U20MWC and I just wanted to start a discussion about the favorites. I had no idea how srong the teams are and how they play. Now, still without having seen any games, I can say that Việt Nam U20 seems to be the strongest team.

Other favorites?
Hellas and Colombia are representing big sokker communities with a lot of good players, Austria, England, Malaysia and many more teams can win the cup.

Is Pilipinas U20 among of them?
To be honest, yes! Our team is able to win every game. I am open to experience joyful surprises! :-)

Next week we start the U20MWC with a game against Andorra U20. What do you think about this game?
The first person who reacted after the draw of the first round of the U20MWC was Mataor, the coach of our opponent team, of Andorra. He wrote on the forum "Uhhhhhh.... "
Week by week our team gets stronger and most U21-managers know about it. We have to win to proove them, that they are right.
On the other hand, I know that coach Mataor is strong in tactics and he has a very strong striker.

Mr Tsolias, what about the game?
On the halftime Andorra was leading by 1-0. My respect to their coach (Mataor) for his well organized defence and his well prepared on counter attacks team. I worried about the game especially because of the injury of Devon Sabugo in the 9th minute. My tactics were based on his qualities.
Nevermind, our players are strong enough to win such games and I jumped of my chair in the 60th minute thanks to this wonderfull strike of Sabugo´s substitute, of Grayson Lumahan. What a goal!!

It was our starting game in the "Mamma mia"-U20- Mini World cup. Tell us, what shall we expect from our team now?
Among the 16 teams, which qualified to the second round, we have the 4th best average mark. It´s just 9% less than Austria´s 50,5. This means we can win everybody. Take a look on the stats!

What about the other games of the "Mamma mia" U20 Mini World cup?
There were some big surprises. Algeria and Albania were weaker and now they are on the next round. Teams like Colombia, Chile, England, Cuba are eliminated.

And what about next game?
We will host a team of somebody you know very well. We were draw to play against Torquemada´s Bolivia U20.
Last time we played against the Ex-U21-coach of Pilipinas, it was before 4 seasons. He was managing Venezuela. We played U20 vs U20 and we lost 1-2. His team was worth 49,2 mil.P. and ours 21,8 mil.P.. Now ours is worth about 25 million P. and Bolivia is notable weaker than Venezuela.
I think now we can win!

And now immagine what is possible if this skill goes up +3... :))

I decided to change completely my training plan. Some of my club´s players from Pilipinas fit in this, some not and they will be transfer listed. I will write about it in a short... (not in this topic)

Press Conference

Mr Tsolias, what about the game?
I had 2 big problems before this game. One was that Bolivia had not played a single U20 game in this season and the other one was the injury of our winger, of Devon Sabugo. So, I am very happy that we could win most duels, keep our sheet clean and score a goal.

Somebody heared you telling during the first half "Lindog will never play again". Is it true?
Yes it is true. Ehh, no, true is the fact, that I said it, but he will play again. I was frustrated about his decisions and his lost shots. But directly after creating and scoring the goal, he ran to me and told me: "Coach, remember! You believed in my success - I believe in your success - together we succeed!". This is the truth!

What about the other games of the "Mamma mia" U20 Mini World cup?
Small countries with good organisation - by telling small, I mean small communities, with just just a few users - have won against big countries with uneffective organisation. Small countries like Wales (Cymru of my friend Onkelchen) and us, Pilipinas, are in the next round.

And what about next game?
In the quarterfinals we will play against Malta. It´s a bigger sokker community. Both teams seem to be in the same level. Their winger seems to be the star of this team and I ask you, can you immagine Pilipinas winning this game and be in the semifinal?

What a great match! I am a little disappointed that Cabungcal's penalty hit the bar, but I was quite sure the Azkals will win anyway. Today all my key players had a lucky day. :D

Karel Uviďál (45 minutes played): Česká republika U21 - Indonesia U21 9:0
Arik Erdmann (62 minutes, one assist): Deutschland U21 - Lietuva U21 8:0
Abel Cabungcal (120 minutes): Malta U21 - Pilipinas U21 3:4

Now I will pray for victory against Việt Nam.
