Cymru U21: What is your primary objective?
2010-11-19 22:49:25
Well, it looks there is not going to be a mini U21 WC so it looks to be a season of friendlies. My Primary aim is to get a good strong squad. Every season we are relying on 21yr olds then at the new season we are in a hurry getting players together. I want to try and build a strong squad but with more 18-20yr olds than there currently are.

thank you, more things for me to consider

Just reading LP's answer, it looks like he feels using our strongest people EVERY game as he said is the way forward for Cymru.

I strongly disagree, most of our best are 21 and we need to get out of this cycle of having mostly 21 year olds doing all the work leaving us in a hell of a mess at the end/beginning of the season. The way forward for Cymru is to rotate our players giving everyone experience. Without us playing youngsters our 21 year olds will slowly and gradually become poor and our whole U21 team will be a mess. We need to act while we can!

just to quote incase he edits

I wish to note that the strongest team will be selected every match,

Well I have to admit, I agree with LP, ranking is more important than training the younger players, although we have a worrying time ahead in terms of age in the squad.

If my answer sounds stupid, it's because I just banged my head against my brother's chest-of-drawers (trying to grab my cat and chuck him out of my brother's room :()

Both are important, but unless we get some younger players through then we're unlikely to improve our ranking. So I tend to agree with Morsey.

but the point i am trying to make is he wants to get our ranking up so we can get a possibly easy group in the WC. But what is the point, because by the time the WC comes, the U21 would be 22 and like i have said, we would be in a crisis as all our best players would be gone. This has happened for too long, we need to stop relying on our 21yr olds and give some experience to the younger ones.

It makes absolute sense to win a match to get our ranking up, but it makes no sense to play a bunch of 21yr olds in a friendly which we'll easily win anyway. If that's what you're saying, then I without question agree with you.

Yes, that is what i mean. He thinks its good to play top notch players every game. Why?

Why risk injuries/cards against weaker opposition, by all means put them on the bench incase they are needed later on in the match. But if you know we are gunna win the game, there is no harm in giving younger players experience.

That is what i feel.
