Personally, I think that the youth side is important, but these players do not decrease in fitness, therefore playing a full strength team is the best option in my opinion

I understand your point but what is the point of having a U21 team if we dont rotate our team around to see what talent could be possibly future NT players. Like i said many occasions. I would play the "experienced" players on the bench then will do set orders if the game goes horribly wrong.

therefore I agree with Vogue and LP

so you believe risking our best players against a weaker opposition is a good option?

But you plan to play teams at the bottom of the rankings, it won't go horribly wrong, you'll just waste talent we have already
2010-11-20 13:26:28
to increase ranking, yes

Oh I love this. Every election this happens :)

We dont have a chance in the WC if your theory goes ahead as by the time the WC comes, we will be left with only a few good players and will be scrambling to find more talent.

Sadly you are correct but it dont matter what you do and what players you use, it will be the same anyways. When it comes to the U21's, the better teams will always be the countries with big userbase which we dont have and will never be good enough to get through the group phrase of the WC if we are lucky enough to get there in the first place :P

That dont mean we should just give up on our U21's though and only use it as a platform to get our players that little extra training :P
We should still try to get good results wherever possible and just hope that userbase does grow over time.
2010-11-20 13:27:23
why would i play teams at the bottom of the rankings? That would be totally a waste of a season.
2010-11-20 13:27:51
thats what you did as NT manager
2010-11-20 13:28:59
Well we are getting somewhere lol

I am not saying that we should play weaker players to get a loss. Getting a good result is always the main priority. But why risk top notch players against a weaker opposition?
2010-11-20 13:30:24
to increase ranking
2010-11-20 13:32:12
Well it has 3 seasons since i was elected NT manager. And if you check, yes i do admit, the first few games i played weaker squad. But that was my first NT experience ever and wanted to get to grips with it. Then as i went on in the season i played progressively harder teams. Since the NT experience i have learnt lots of things, one of them is not to risk good players against the weaker opposition which LP says he would do just to get a good result.

Like Vogue said, our Userbase is small so we are never going to get far in the U21 WC or going to get massively high in the rankings. So i dont see why we should waste seasons trying to when we could be improving the players we have.

My gripe with your proposition is simply that in order for your plan to work at it's best, you would need to be manager for 3-4 seasons, because it's such a long-term plan. Another manager could come in and change your plan around, therefore, you would need to be re-elected 3-4 times.

Of course the better players will go, they've had an extra season or more of training compared to the younger players. So tell me how playing 20yos and younger for their extra training a season will honestly help future players? It will make no difference! They will be just as strong by the end of next season, and then you start off with weaker players again. It's the cycle of U21, and here's some stats to back up my arguments.

Start avg marks - Week 15 (after age updates)
End avg marks - Week 14 (before age updates)

3 seasons ago -
Start avg marks = 50
End avg marks = 53.6

2 seasons ago -
Start avg marks = 50.4
End avg marks = 55.3

Last season -
Start avg marks = 50.6
End avg marks = 51.6

This (wrexhamboyo) season -
Start avg marks = 48.1
End avg marks = 52.9

Me or your season -
Start avg marks = 48.3 (Would have been higher if Drake wasn't in defence I guess?)

Now it is true Cymru is getting weaker. But it seems this is after the junior talent updates, and also the fact there are no Overtons or Probins that I know of at the moment, even though Legg looks promising and will probably get a fair few games this season.

There are no top notch players in our U21 though and there are very few uber weak opponents in the U21's where we will be able to play our 2nd string players(20yr olds).
On the odd occasion we do come up against those very weak teams where we can still get a result by using our 20yr olds then I fully agree with you but sadly that aint gonna happen enough to make much of a difference to the 20yr olds training.

Once again, I agree with what you are saying but I dont think the idea works so well for U21's due to the lack of opportunites we will get to use those 2nd string players. Even in the seniors we wont get loads of opportunities to play 2nd string players but there will be more than compared to the U21's.

In short, use whenever possible but dont use it as a plan to make our U21's better in the longrun as it just aint gonna happen.
