Subject: Cymru - Season 73

All much appreciated cheers everyone! Back in the day I just had a consistent 4-3-3 I played against everyone, had some decent games early on with this tactic but agree it sort of lives or dies by the wingbacks which aren’t going to be good enough players this early on. Will be an exciting end to the season, I do have a tactic I’ve started but not finished in the back pocket so will see how that goes for next season - most of my players now are still the ones I got cheap to get out of Division 1 so slowly but surely upgrading them. Hoping for an exciting off season to close the gap further next season and all hopes pinned on a 16yo junior who’s coming through this week for a bit of cash, the market is dead at the moment though so not holding out a lot of hope!

At the top at least closing in on the business end now it’s all to play for, everyone has something to play for for the last few games.

Also I don t know how much money you guys receive from a match against a boot but if I were you I would prefer to play a playoff for relegation. One extra game one extra training for young players and 99% chances of winning. In the past when I needed money and I had the time I used to buy old players on Saturday so I don t have to pay their wages and sack them on Friday. Its hard but you ll need to find ways to cut the gap to the top two

It would take a lot of dropped points and hit to sponsorship money and fan mood across the season, there's 5 user teams and 1 very strong bot team. The two former user teams below that are two small squads and then 4 teams who are a guaranteed win. There's plenty of chances to get training on young players through the season which is good, but realistically the easiest way to cut the gap is money off a big junior sale by the looks of it, like Blue mentioned the other day.

You are right about the academy but if you have a coach like Jay in my opinion is a waste of money. That kind of coach is alright only in the first couple of weeks of the season when you can hope you ll get a couple of 16 years old.

He’s doing his best! :D I would upgrade but don’t have the cash flow yet.

the amount of free training we get throughout the season is more than enough. i'm barely breaking even each week but i'm paying for 3 really good coaches and have 20+ academy going.

fact is the best money maker is even just having an ok coach for academy, sell the 16-18 yos you get, because winning the league, low attendance / low capacity stadiums just doesn't add up in the short term, when you can line your team with 16-20yos and still manage to stay mid table, maybe even fight for top 3 at certain points.

but don't get me wrong, you can still set up the acadamey and never sell a player for a lot, but that's the risk i guess, and even if they keep players, training them until 21/22 (around the best time to sell developed/developing players) then selling and doing it all again, with how the market has been and has no signs of changing soon is a better risk to go for imo.

pros: decent money making prospect, even if selling for 500k, that's a lot more than they make now. chance for a decent young player, more fun to watch your academy pops + see how they turn out in training. less stress when not worrying about winning every game.

cons: may not get a good sale every season. training can be limited as you will mainly focus on what sells (pace, tech) and can cause players to be less rounded. more of a waiting game, maybe can get bored of just waiting for pops, waiting for players to come out of the academy. demoralising by not competing as you may have wanted.

maybe in more populated leagues money is higher so its worth it, but i've seen the money my friends in other leagues get - dutch + finnish, and it's a lot more than britain gets for coming first.

For whatever reason in sokker some people are really lucky when it comes to juniors coming into their academy and other not so much. I think I m in the later category. Even so I think having a good academy coach is a good invvestment as long as you know which one to keep. Imo is not worth keeping players that exit the academy at the age of 19 and above. I ve coached Cymru for several seasons now and every Thursday I checked what new juniors exit your academies. I don t have a statistic but I think you guys sack at least 40% percent of them. Imo thats a waste of money. Another thing I ve noticed you guys sack 17 years old that can be easily sold. If I select them for national team you can get some money somebody will train and you ll get some further money in case of a resale. Anyway, hopefuly things will get better because at the moment the only decent players are your midfielders.
Just to let you know I won t be running next season in case one you guys would like to run. No need for experience or time :)

incorrect, the amount of times i've tried to sell, 17, 18 yos, regardless of talent + sum, they rarely dip into it, and if they do sell it's for pennies and maybe once in 5 seasons you may get a bid war over some trash that you didn't want to keep and get 100k or so. i tried to sell brooks last season, sure he was 18, but his talent is around 4, so isn't half bad, no one bought him, tried to sell tuft this season cause i had carter come through and someone had to miss out - 18yo with 10 pace and no one even sniffing at him for a cheap price, again a player around 4 talent, not the best not the worst but pops decently. so what am i meant to do? just let them sit and rot on form training? then have you tell me i'm wasting my players, or just fire them and move on to the other talent i have and can train?

i will sack players because i can know that no one will buy by their skill distribution, or yes they are low talent and then they come out 19 yo with bad distribution of skills that i had hoped it would be a better sum, ok money wasted doesn't matter.

right now i have 3 "top talents" in my academy and look forward to seeing what can happen in the next few seasons.

The economy in this game is abysmal, and it's probably the biggest thing holding the game back.

Most of the rest of the game is fun (except the youth team, that is also abysmal), but when you win a lot and still can't afford a decent team it does make it hard to stick with.

The transfer market makes no sense. It's often impossible to sell even half decent youth players. I've sacked loads of players that could have been decent with a few seasons of training. But I think the situation with the coaches is the biggest problem there, why is it so hard to get the coaches you want? Why have they made that the hard thing to get? It's just not fun. I can save and get incredible players (as 38 year old can still be divine in many skills)... great players should be the aspirations, great coaches should just be one tool for you to get those....

before advanced training you were able to pick up random talent for cheap, for example i bought a defender for 150k at 16 or 17, sold him for 4m, it was more fun and random, now we have a decent path to train players how we like in various ways - before you would have certain managers training certain things, and you may try and trade for them so your NT will be stronger.

you can also pickup coaches people in the coach market - not perfect but can be fairly useful to get 4-5 attributes you want at a 16 if/when you get the money. otherwise it is the RNG rolls, which i usually did at the end or start of a season.

game won't change any time soon, so better to learn to accept it cause people have asked for change for years, that's where advanced training came from, which exploded market prices which only favours people who have played longer.

if you want my advice, you may not enjoy it, but you can ask admins if you can change league - i feel you'd have more fun with more managers, even if you drop down a bit getting your team straight, more players, more money, more competition. it's what i would do if i could be bothered and has happened once or twice with people coming here.

Coach market is a good idea now depends if he has the money for lets say 10 tries.
Last year just for fun I wanted to move my team to Cymru but one of the admins said I need to show proof of address :)

Have you ever chat with the owner of Sporting? He reads the messages but never replies. First I thought he doesn t have any coaches but he keeps getting decents players. Like today a half decent GK. This one could ve been a great player but…

theoretically nothing stopping from asking admins to delete my profile and then just signing up again once that's complete, i know the romanian did start in cymru then transferred to romania

he has never talked since i've been here, only recently opened a mail i sent about a player he was selling but didn't respond.

Are there any welsh managers interested? Might be worth us doing some succession planning and aligning our votes to whoever we prefer.
2025-05-22 16:36:58
depends what you want from a manager, want to win? then i wouldn't put myself forward, i would mainly be focusing on development for whatever youngsters we have assuming we are in official comps.
