Its hard to say from just seeing 3 pops but I'd go with a 3.5 talent from that screenshot.

If a junior were to pop say 2*, 3, 3, 4, 3, 3, 4
That would be a talent of 3.33
2008-05-29 12:37:12
From that pic though would u agree he pops 3 then 4 then 3?
2008-05-29 12:40:42
I would give your player a talent of 3.33 (3+4+3)

Cadette may be weak, but he's already popped 3 times in 7 weeks (1,3,3) that's why he will be a star. Talent is below 3.5. & I really don't give a damn what you say ;-)
2008-05-29 12:41:28
Yes, and that would give him a 3.5 talent. However, that graph may not show the entire picture as those 3 pops could be in the middle of other low pops.

e.g. 4, 3, 3, 4, 3,
If the pop before the first 3 week pop in bold showing was another 3 week pop then i'd say he was a 3.33 week talent.

Hope that makes sense :)

Right I think I'm starting to get it a bit more now.

so A Chap is born and is an average 7.

pops week 1

then goes 3, 3 and u give him a contract

u look at his popping, its 1-3-3

therefore we'd have him as talent 2.3?

Shows how much I know about this game this :)
2008-05-29 12:51:29
No, I didn't say that. Cadette is 1.3.3 which so far makes him a talent of 3.?? as I ignore the time for first pop. But I expect him to have a t least one 4 week pop in the next 3 months.
2008-05-29 12:54:25
right ok so we don't count the first week.

thats all I wanted to know really.

Think I must just have been really unlucky with my youngsters I guess.

heyho :)

Not sure I need to answer this anymore now but you are correct, we dont count the first pop as the junior could be half way to the next level already.
The talent is worked out by the average of an x amount of pops depending on the amout of weeks it takes to pop a level. here is a few examples which will hopefully help.

youth 1: 4*, 4, 4, 4, 4 - from that you'd put him as a straight 4 week talent.
youth 2: 1*, 4, 4, 3, 4, 4, 3 - from that you'd give him a 3.66 talent as you can see a pattern of pops every 4, 4 and 3 weeks.
youth 3: 3*, 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 3 - from that, he'd be a 3.5 talent.

I like that last example nice and easy, easy enough for me to understand :)

In fact I've stuck it in the newbie forum so I can look at it forever :P

Is there any progs out there to keep a number of the youths pops? as my pen and paper method is subject to outside influences, ie the mrs cleaning up me ol comp deck :)

You weren't unlucky, you just took too long to appoint a magical junior coach. I've had mine for nearly 2 seasons now, and so this season will start to reap the benefits. Also, I sacked 9 juniors 4 weeks ago, that had talent above 4.5, and so there are fewer but more talented juniors in the Squad.

I worked out that it costs too much to keep untalented youths, as you can't sell them to recuperate the investment, and you don't want to train them as they're less talented. Hence, Now I only keep talent levels 4.5 & below.

Approx Costs for training a youth
20 Weeks = 32K (20 * (600+1000)) (Youth Place + Coach)
30 Weeks = 48K (30 * (600+1000))
2008-05-29 13:14:36
so for, 48K, you can normally buy a decently talented youth on the transfer market, but you're never guaranteed what talent level they have.

I've been unlucky :(
I've had my magical for 2 seasons now and i've only ever had 2 juniors with a talent of 3.5 with 1 still being in the junior school.

As for untalented juniors not being worth it, I have recently sold a 5 week talent for 120k and a 6 week talent for 72k so if they reach a high enough level then the talent aint quite so important for making some profit. Obviously the better talented juniors will earn you more but you can still make a profit on less talented juniors.

edit: to add to that, the more juniors you have sold, the more chance of earning extra money when they are sold on so you cant just go by the initial sale of your junior.

yes, forgot about the sell on bit, as my juniors have been so good, no-one's wanted to sell them yet ;-)

EDIT: Mind you, I did get another "Club received 38 £ from transfer of junior Bevan Kendall"
beat the 1 £ that I got for him last week.

Can't believe you got 120K for a poor junior. Someone's looking down on you :-)

Well, I don't care about talent: all juniors that can come out as very good or better (or 16 yo) are kept. Of course, if one fits my training plans, but has a talent above 4 weeks, I sell them straight away :)
2008-05-29 13:39:55
You do realise I had a brilliant youth coach for donkeys before the magical and not actually sure going from brilliant to magical has done much tbh.

If I had a better record as well I'd likely find out they have been better than I think.

Just looked to see when my brilliant youth coach came into play

Trainer history:

lol quite a while then.

On a side note as we are at the end of the day a small nation and have the coolest flag on the planet even fairly naff juniors with naff talent still seem to sell pretty well :)

agree on the flag :p (and yes, lots of managers want the flag ;p)
