Subject: [update] Match Engine and Other Refinements

I would suggest fixing the fisics of the ball movement:

- The vertical movement of the ball should brake faster when it touches the ground. But only the vertical part of the speed, the horizontal part should be independent.

- The horizontal movement should not brake so fast when the ball is near the ground. High balls are supposed to be stopped by the air resistance, but this only happen at a certain height since the terraces prevent the outer wind to come to the pitch. This is specially seen when the ball rolls over the grass

"Specially when players shoot balls outside the pitch for no reason at all.
The worst passing is also questionable, it are still football players. A tragic skilled football player should still be way better as someone who never touched a football before."

18 to 19 years old players should be pretty good players as in reality. Some of them are ready for the adults national teams!

In my last junior game my 18 old strikers (2) got past the last defender. That would be a 99% sure goal even with juniors, but instead the guy with the ball passed it to one of the midfielders (luckily own team member:) but anyway the defender who just got played out got the ball when the midfielder was wondering what he should do with a ball a totally unknown device for him :(

Current ME is set for superdivine skills in every aspect.

If you have sd players they do well.
Other players are able to make bad mistakes all the time.

You can control damage by selecting proper tactics and you have to learn what's best for your team.

New ME - new learning curve.

There can be a notification if someone replies to us on a forum. Also, there can also be an option to tag multiple users when writing a message in the forum using the '@' button. This way, people who are active on the forum can keep track of all the people replying to them.

Sorry didn't understand you.

My point is, it should be easier for people to keep track of interesting topics that they are a part of. If a user is active on multiple threads/topics, it will be really difficult for him to keep track of all of them or even remember the conversations that he is part of. And because of that, others who are expecting a reply from that user have to be kept waiting as the user is simply unaware that he was replied to.

I really think improving the match engine should be higher on the list of priorities. Surely having matches that are more realistic and enjoyable to watch would make Sokker a lot more attractive for both new and existing users. Frankly right now the matches look rather awful, and the engine changes a few years ago made it worse. There are some things that could be improved relatively easily and would make a big difference (and in some cases just taking back the badly implemented changes would help a lot):

- Worst is players "launching" the ball into a random direction, often to an opponent, while getting slower. This is basically just giving away the ball and totally destroys the flow of the game

- There seems to be some kind of "momentum" that makes the whole team play better or worse in some phases. This makes the games way too random up to a point where it's hard to see the effects of tactics and skills

- More combination play was a good idea in principle, but players are way too obsessed with passing to a free teammate. That leads to silly sideways and back passes when a player has space in front of him. Also strikers are preferably passed to when they drop back and are easy to tackle

- Defenses are dropping back to 3-4m in front of their goal and leaving opponents free around the penalty spot

- The player on the ball is only attacked by the nearest opponent, whether he's in front or behind him. If a mid is running behind the opponent striker or if the goalkeeper is the nearest player, none of the defenders will make any attempt to defend

- Strangely, in attack there are often two players going to the ball. Strikers sprint back to a ball that a teammate can easily get, leaving noone up front. Also players coming from a clear offside position will take away the ball from a teammate who's not offside

- One good thing about the engine changes was that defenders intercept more passes. However players still make no attempt to get to an imprecise pass from a teammate. Wingers just watch while the ball goes out next to them, and strikers run past the opponent goalkeeper letting him pick up the ball

- Central defenders kick the ball out from the middle of the field. In the old engine at least this happened only with low playmaking skill

- Sliding worked perfectly fine in the old engine, but in the new one players usually push the ball into the direction of their own goal, often directly to an opponent, with rather acrobatic movements

- Strikers heading back the ball do it into a completely random direction, not even into the vague direction of a teammate

- Goalkicks also don't seem to be directed at a teammate regardless of passing skill. Most are just kicked long through the middle and come down in an area where only an opponent defmid stands. Alternatively they go high in the vague direction of the winger and almost always out

(Sorry for the long post, but I think this is an important topic and there are a lot of things that need to be improved in this area.)

Goalkeepers should be more active during the match. When my team is attacking he can stand on the edge of the penalty area and he can move as the situation on the pitch changes and eventually be ready to reach the ball if the threat of break rises. In the current ME he just stands on the goal line for the entire game and there is no teamwork between him and the defenders. Instead of 11 players on each side, there are 10 players plus a dummy.

I think that keepers should need more than 3 skills. If the ME was to ever change in the tasks of goalkeepers, I think that keepers should need playmaking, because in modern football they don't do only goal kicks like in sokker. They get often involved into combination with defenders. Another reason for one more skill required for goalkeepers is that fact that much more people will be able to train goalkeepers after the change of training system
