Subject: [idea] International Cup or International League?
I still think that two equal competitions is rubbish. It has no emotion. It has no sense.
We will end up bored.

Agreed.
I have just thought about two alternatives (I have not really assessed the potential downsides in detail):
1)
Based on groups of 4 teams.
After the 6 games, different brackets for teams qualified in the first place, in the second place, in third place and in fourth place (or 1 bracket for 1st and 2nd teams and another one for 3rd and 4th place). The eliminated teams would play against each other until a full classification is obtained (similar to some basketball tournaments). A prize could be awarded to winners of each bracket. In this case, no team is loosing train due to lack of official matches.
2)
Based on 8 groups of 6 teams (48 teams per "tournament").
After 10 weeks, teams in 1st and 2nd position advance to play-offs. 1/8, 1/4, semifinals and final.
In this case, maximum weeks without official game would be just 4.
Eliminated players could keep playing in a similar way as for option 1. If so, this would be the same as option 1 bust just with more teams per group and different number of total teams per tournament.
By doing this, we would not have two leagues with the same format (local and international).

I would have no issues with it, but there must be a promotion and relegation structure (which could be implemented in both of those options).
In their first explanation, they just wanted to make the tournament based on average league rank, and every season would be independent of the previous seasons result. This would really hurt teams who are in the top division of their country, who win season after season because they have a 10-20pt rating advantage. These teams need to be able to get to a position in an international tournament, where they can play similar strength teams, without relying on others from their own country.
So as long as there is a promotion/relegation system involved, and all teams have the same potential to move up and down regardless of what their country is like (big, small, strong, weak, similar levels or very different), then it is ok.

Big +1 to this system @Romo.
This way anybody would play three different types of competitions.

I would find an international league just as fun as a national one, even if it was the same structure.
The national one you play for national pride, being the best from your nation. This is the big incentive.
The international on, you are not only playing for your country, but because there are so many teams, every team in your league will have a very similar rating, so every match will be very even, making it a lot of fun

it makes more sense with training clarification teams to be not eliminated from cups or internationa tournaments but play for lower level distribution
As you said, my suggestions could work as well based on a relegation/promotion structure instead of on ranking structure (and therefore independent from previous season). To be honest, I prefer as well the relegation/promotion structure.
I would be happy as well with an international league but I get the point of Rapelo and some other users (the interest in local league might decrease for some users).
Therefore, my alternatives are trying to find a balance and make everyone happy (or not angry haha) and above all, do not punish the training of eliminated teams.

Speaking of training only, whatever is implemented, needs to allow weaker teams to play for just as long as stronger teams.
Whether this is a round robin league, or a cup where not only do the winners go on to play other winners, but the losers go on to play other losers, or be it a group followed by play-offs, but where the losers also go on to see who is at the bottom.
As far as fairness to everyone goes, one of the above options should be chosen, and promotion/relegation to strong or weaker leagues/cups/groups, needs to be on offer for the ultimate winners/finalists for the promotion, and bottom losers for the relegations.

Yes, and for my part it would not make sense to play the national league. We are looking for new competitions, not the same.
You can have national pride, but if top teams played an international league, I assure you they would prefer international league.

I think it is great you are coming up with ideas like this. This is how we continue to move forward :)
I mean as long as the basic rules apply:
- any team can promote to a stronger competition regardless of what country they are from, or the strength of that country
- any team can relegate to a weaker competition, regardless of what country they are from, or the strength of that country
- both weak and strong teams get the same amount of official matches
- the extra competition must take place on one day of the week only, and must occur on consecutive weeks
- the extra competition involves users from more countries than just the managers country.
- the competition must utilise players already in your team, and no have limitations based on age or strength
then I am open to any suggestion, and would be happy with any suggestion.

I agree, but something different or based on national league somehow please! So, we can kill national league.
I hope devs will give us a solution in the next diary.

cards from domestic tournaments should not count for international competition as in RL
I don't like too much the idea of an international championship equal to the national one.
I would prefer a system of cups divided by player level. Every cups with champions league system: a first part with group stage (many games for everyone) and a second part with direct matchs. Like the system posted by OLIVER ATON

yes I was thinking how to make it more attractive and different from National league but keeping the promotion system and full season for everyone. Oliver came with a good idea and I prefer his system. It is something between cup and league which could please most of the users
