Subject: [GD] Match Engine

one sidenote to injuries:

I play corner tactics to avoid injuries. Young player that is injured for +25 days in friendly match lose 3 trainings and placing him with slight injury so he can get the first training after 4 weeks leads to higher risk of another injury. With my most precious youngsters this would mean that I could lose on their market price much more than I would ever lose on money from sponsors and tickets no matter what changes Devs would do.

right. Contact is an injurie factor. But injuries happen, we can't blame the game for that, and keep the stupid corner system happen.

In the match orders, I miss a condition of the type "Player has no yellow card"

If I change a player with a yellow card and that card happens to be his 3rd one, he won't be able to play the next official game, which could be a cup game. As a consequence, he won't be able to train at 100%

An order like the one a propose would allow him to play the whole game, getting at least the training corresponding to the league match

Or league and cup should have a separate card count.

It makes no sense that a player can get a red card, and then he can just play in the next league match.

That's how it works IRL, isn't it?

This is what I would like to see in Sokker, instead of an idiot kicking the ball to no one.

Moving forward in a controled way:

Well cup and leguage no but international competitions yes cl euro leguage but here makes more sense to separate cards

Oh, and these kind of things, smarter players.

Another Sunday...

At least this time the ME was fair, both goalkeepers dropped one ball...
Why would you EVER put that in the game is beyond my understanding.

+1
well mine game was no better i know my strikers suck but opponent do not had better and all his chances in none for me but that can understand possible what really annoyed me how striker passing like trains through nt defenders avoiding frontal tackes 2-3 times in one attack no tactics can stop that :(

I saw there has been some discussion about this in the Dev Diary thread, but I think it fits better here and is worth looking at:

Raúl, I've been realizing for a long time that the most useful tactic in top level is with 5 def. Maybe effectiveness should be reduced. Almost everyone in Champions or first division is "forced" to play with this tactic, and in real football is very difficult to see it.

The main issue is in midfield. In real football teams can be compact and make it hard for opponents to play forward passes. In Sokker mids with high enough playmaking skill will pass almost immediately before an opponent gets close to them, also because mids don't stick close to their opponents or try to block passing lanes. Defenses are also very vulnerable to through passes. So that's why sacrificing a mid and having a back 5 helps a lot. More mids don't even help you much in attack since it mostly means more useless sideways passes.

I don't see an easy way to fix this though. You'd have to make a completely new match engine with much more "intelligent" players. Maybe that's a project for the future, but I think for now there are many things about the engine that can be improved much more easily.

A few things you could possibly do:

- Make mids better at intercepting passes (defenders already do that)
- Make mids with high playmaking skill take slightly longer to pass
- Have fewer sideways passes when there are free mids

That would encourage having more players in midfield and take pressure off the defense, so a back 4 would become more practical and you'd have more realistic tactics.

Deep passes behind the defense are too random, and they can easily solve the game. Defenders are pretty stupid when dealing with those passes, sometimes they don't intercept the ball when they can, sometimes they don't run back when they should.
That is why it is good to have 5 defenders, so there is no gaps. When everything is covered, midfielders don't want to pass the ball.

I wish that defenders are better. Better at intercepting and better at, you know, running back, hahaha. That would force midfielders to make some passing combinations between each other to make an opening, by drawing out a defender, or by making the whole defense move to the other side.
Now, midfielder should move with the ball into an empty space, preferably forward, and draw the attention of the defense. When he has nowhere to go anymore, he should look for an open teammate. This way, letting somebody control the midfield would be a disaster.
This shouldn't be "impossible" to code. Main parameter should be the distances from the opposing players. That should be used to determine where is the midfielder gonna move with the ball.

Spot on.

DM is useless, 5th central defender is much more useful.

Mids don't try to catch a ball (break a pass) going 20cm from their feet.
That's so unreal it hurts.

I hope it can be fixed. I hurt see everyone playing with defensive tactics.

Correct if I'm wrong but it seems like ball moves faster in sokker then in real football matches.

5 def is mostly an habit to covers wings, i dont think it s cause by the MID order and how midfields play.

Under 21, mid/wingers are less efficient and 4 def for top youngs is a common setup! Correct if im a wrong, but even in A (not U21) i see in last editions two World Cup Finalist playing 4 def line.

5 def is maybe too much common but logically 5 def is more "secure"... That's a strategy choice.
We can play 4 def with success too, and cover the wings by playing very low def line.
We can play 5-4-1 too, no need to sacrifice a mid, but many teams don't want to "sacrifice" a striker... That's a choice.

In my opinion, maybe the engine need more playmaking adjustment for sure, but thats actually not true that sokker define 5 def as a winning tactic. We can play many setup Vs various opponents, 5 def is not always a better choice . We should better blame the "unskilled/ uncreative" tacticians for that.
