Subject: [idea] Ranking reform and TV-rights bonus

The current ranking system is bothering me for a long time now. It's not clear how it's calculated, it has practically no purpose and it's sitting there, on your main page, going up or down, whatever it feels like doing...

I think it's about time we have a ranking system that makes sense and has a proper purpose!

I suggest, in stead of rising the number, it should go down!
Nr 1 should have RANK 1... Logically and much more prestigious!

So this means the Ranking should be based on:
1) Position in the league
2) Position in the CC
3) Position in the national cup
4) Results

Now... Each country should have it's own ranking system and within this system, a new form of bonus must be created to motivate managers to perform well on as much games as possible.

I introduce the TV-rights bonus.
It should be given at the start of each season, depending on your place in the league!
1st class of each country should automatically have this bonus and 2nd class also, but less than first class.

Maybe 1st class: 1.5M
2nd Class: 800k

You may think... This is unfair for lower divisions. Well, no... Don't see it like that. It's much more challenging, playing at that level, cause all your opponents are going to be willing to win as much as possible, so teams are going to be stronger, more expensive players, maybe overall more players... But this will give lots of managers the extra punch they need to make a go to the championship...

Each country should get the same bonus from TV-rights, so smaller countries have also a rightfull bonus for playing at the top of their country. Off course, Teams playing in bigger countries, playing at the top will receive the same bonus and lots more sponsor income, but this way, the gap between smaller countries and medium ranked teams in bigger countries (like 4th division in Poland f.e.) will decrease.

But what I feel to be the most important issue about the ranking, is that the reward for playing at the top isn't rewarding enough, and the prestige is poor...
Ok, you have the CC for the winner and the cup winner, but 2nd place gets... NOTHING!
It should be more rewarding, prestigeous and motivating to play at the top, and in my opinion... Nr 1 IS the top!

I like this idea, could close the GAP among countries due to the top-up system, and also add sth to improve your team!!!

I don't see the need for a new bonus, but I do think the bonus that already exists at the end of the season needs to be changed. Right now it depends on fan mood at the end of the season, so if you lose the last 2-3 games you'll get less even if you had a great season overall. Surely it would make more sense to have it depending on the league position. Also teams in the upper half should be compensated for not having the income from a relegation game. It's weird that 5th-7th place gets you more money than 2nd-4th.

Imho, it's very well programmed, so -1 for the reform of ranking system and also -1 on TV-bonus, because sponsorship on the begin of season already depends on results of past season.

There is no rule saying how ranking should be measured. This is just your personal wish.

Agree, sponsor bonus must reflect overall performance on the league during the season, also including some league strength factor

I think your 8:0 value is wrong as it doesn't follow the diminishing returns that every other number follows (ie in yours you get 29.29 for 1-0, another 18 for 2-0, another 5 for 3-0, another 4 for 5-0 (an extra two goals), and then suddently 15 for 8-0 (or 5 per extra goal which is the same difference per goal as going from 2-0 to 3-0)

I found this one on the forum. Still not sure if it is accurate, but it does follow the diminishing returns and is the same as yours for the other values

Whether it's a tv bonus, or money for finishing in certain positions, but I do agree with the general premise that position you finish in, should come with some sort of financial bonus.

Whilst I see the arguments for why finishing 5th is better than 4th, I'm still on the fence over whether it truly is (all comes down to how many matches you need to throw etc), but it does show that more reward needs to be given to finishing top 4. Tv deals, prize money, beer promotions, whatever, just should be something

As far as the ranking system goes. I don't think it's broken, but I don't think its perfect either. Losing points for winning just should not happen, no matter who you play, but the general idea of diminishing returns is decent. Probably bigger fish to fry at this stage

A simple and fair solution for the bonus could be something like this (with 12 team leagues that are planned): The team in first place gets 250% of the average weekly sponsorship income of all teams in the league, second place 230%, third place 210% and so on (just as an example, the exact numbers are debatable). That way you'd be rewarded for success and have more of an incentive to fight for placings until the end. In addition, teams that don't have relegation games get a compensation that is roughly the income from a relegation game (for example half of the average income from home games that season).

Agree with the premise, just not the execution. Let's get the sponsorship inequalities fixed before having new additions use those numbers as the base for their multiplier.

A simple division structure prize money would suffice. And given how poor prize money is for the cup, I'd assume that any prize money/TV rights bonus would also be poor, but it'd be something at least.

Either way, I think we all agree, a little something just to sweeten the blow to not having that extra match income is needed, even if it's not much, just something

So you found these figures on forum... But how accurate are they? How do they know that? There's nowhere in the rules anything to be found regarding the calculation of the ratings... Is it a best estimated guess?

No and yes. No, because there are no extra points, yes because one needs to make wins to promote.
However, mathematically it is possible to promote and have less points than before promoting.


But how accurate are they?
I check them very often after the games of the German U21 and I can assure you that they are correct. (divergence is less than 0,99 at final result)
There are only mistakes in the higher scores (4:0, 5:0, 6:0 etc.) - the score bonus is higher than in the post I found in the forum and I am now trying to achieve big victories with the German u21 to correct it.

How do they know that?
It's simple mathematics...
