Subject: Thank you Sokker

2026-01-22 16:26:13
The quality of shots is considered by the xGoals-value irl.

Maybe a game-stat that could be implemented in sokker, too. ;-)

Good question.

To add few of my thoughts, I think sokker is not that easy as it seems. Imo it is impossible to find one simple reason for losing games.

I think a lot depends on: tactic, skills of the players, players bmi, match up between players, luck/rng, form, pitch size and quality, and maybe other things I missed

I have (respectfully) noticed a trend though, where one or two teams just see worse luck in a given season than normal.
I'm not only talking about my own team (the previous season). I've watched other teams in ML over the seasons I was up there get hammered with silly result after result. Atlantic and Citadel come to immediate mind. Pittsburgh too, the season he chose to relegate after it happened to him a few games.

It seems almost like the ME decides in a pick on a team or two each season. Impossible, but that is how it seems.

All these variables you mention apply to both sides, and the vast majority of teams in sokker pay no attention to most of the above factors.

edit: then again, I've so far noticed this with injuries too. They come in clumps.

Hard to know without details of implementation but even if injury is perfectly random, you’ll typically see:
1. a couple teams with very low injuries
2. a couple teams with high injuries
3. most teams clustered near the mean
I'd think similar to results.
This is just binomial sampling noise.

That's exactly what happens with randomness.
Many people look for reasons, but it's the law of chance and distribution. You can have a whole season of bad luck, and that's perfectly normal statistically.

The problem stems mainly from the fact that random plays too much a role (if not only) in many aspects of the game. And game engine is one of them.

I also suspected that the current widespread of high-level goalkeepers must have had an impact on more randoms, compared to whats happen before training reforms (when 18 GK was more rare). At least, it's clear that when you watch game engine, the goalies' saves look more like Spiderman saves than normal human irl saves ^^

haha yea, recently i had 2 top goalies injured and had to play this one

Adi Muntean, age: 38, height: 191 cm
value: 1 163 500 $, wage: 10 225 $
club: Island Spirit Tigers, country: România
form [18] superdivine, tactical discipline [10](+1) excellent

stamina [11] formidable, keeper [14] brilliant
pace [10] excellent, defender [1] hopeless
technique [1] hopeless, playmaker [3] poor
passing [6] adequate, striker [2] unsatisfactory

but to my surprise he was also a Spiderman :P not sure if it is his height. his passing was better than a goalie i had previously with ~12 passing and top form too

There are so many factors which may miss lead the expectations of a game outcome, a few stated under :

1) subs as some make 5 substitutions which will not give the proper player rating.
2) player skill distribution choosing a tactic accordingly to their skills.
3) shots vs shots on the game report very misleading, if one team has 10 1 vs 1 and other one 10 shots from far it's not at all equal
4) injuries + red cards
5) luck is becoming more important if more cards and injuries

We have less and less superdivine midfielders or strikers in the game so people have to decide more how their striker or midfielder will look like ( most teams)

Winning expectation can be there but proper analyse is needed before jumping to conclusions that a weaker team won because of "luck"

Sure. i noticed myself that even a brilliant goalkeeper was perfectly capable of playing Spiderman in the M.E.

It's not specifically the ultimate goalies, but just that more good enough goalies are widely available for cheap for all teams. The more Spidermen there are, the more it may increase random.

Incidentally, we only need to watch a penalty shootout in Sokker. It's obvious that it has nothing to do with a simulation close to real life. Scoring 1 over 5 shots at the penalty point is already a good ratio.

Penalties in sokker is a scam :)))

Ratings and shots are not everything. That being said i didnt watch game or dont know players skills
2026-01-24 16:07:44
Ok dudes... You're right, the match engine definitely doesn't favor teams with low ratings; I'm wrong
2026-01-24 16:14:24
-match engine favoring teams with low ratings
-players shots more accurate with heads than feets
-Long shot scorers more accurate than 1-by-1 positions
-players pass choices depending position than playmaking
-The game score is firstly simulating, after it goal animations processing.
2026-01-24 18:13:00
Haha not true at all, some teams score a lot of goals with headers because they have worked hard on tactics and skill distribution on players, others score a lot from 1 vs 1 shots from far are the least effective ones against a strong defensive line, but again if you choose wisely positionning of your players + skills they have support shots from far it can be a weapon as well.

İts actually game engine weakness. İts not about tactics only. They are mostly using this tactics because forwards more accurate on headshots than feets. İts ruining fun in game and reality. Everyone in leagues playing same tactics because of that.
