Subject: Ancient Greek

2008-01-13 12:18:36
Hi,

I am writing a historical novel which takes place at about 170BC and of course involves some of your ancestors. :) I am looking for online sources of ancient Greek, which are similar to this:
http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/BA/UAGP.html
or that can give me more everyday (ancient) Greek language ideas.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

go to wikipedia and write this " Αρχαία Ελληνική Ιστορία".

Then choose English and you've got what you want

First of all, thanks :)

Second, I tried what you suggested and got this: "There is no page titled "Αρχαία Ελληνική Ιστορία".

Third: Wikipedia is not a very good source. I already found there this:
Koine Greek - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koine_Greek and that is only good for history and linguistics and not for actual phrases like the source in my first post.

I can do searches, I was wondering, whether anyone has information about a specific site or online source.

Thanks

I'm looking for words, phrases, sentences and anything else I can use in my book. The book is written in English, but here and there I insert Greek words, phrases and such. I have done a lot of research and it is easy to find names from that period or geographical information. But I'm having trouble finding language examples from that period.

If anyone can help with an exact source I'll be grateful.

Για ήρεμα λίγο, βοήθεια ζητάει το παλικάρι. Τι Μακεδονία και Αλέξανδρος; Αν δεν μπορείτε να τον βοηθήσετε καλύτερα να μην γράφετε τίποτα.

@RogIronfist Sorry man, probably none of them can help you. They are just spamming.

I shall still hold my fingers crossed for help from the Greek community. :)

Can you perhaps give me the names of a few (maybe three) books which have the ancient greek language plus English translation... and I will try to buy them on Amazon/online.
?

Thanks
