This is a fun thread to track matches and results of the real Indian football team. We are currently ranked 105th and finished 3rd in the World Cup Qualifiers group which means we weren't able to go the next round but managed to qualify for the 3rd round of Asian Cup qualifiers.
Group E
Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification
1 Qatar 8 7 1 0 18 1 +17 22 Asian Cup[a]
2 Oman 8 6 0 2 16 6 +10 18 Third round and Asian Cup
3 India 8 1 4 3 6 7 −1 7 Asian Cup qualifying third round
4 Afghanistan 8 1 3 4 5 15 −10 6
5 Bangladesh 8 0 2 6 3 19 −16 2
We aren't a strong team yet, but in the next 5 years, there are predictions of us getting a very strong team in Asia atleast at the level of Japan, Australia, South Korea, etc. In 2015 we were ranked in the 170s but we have improved our ranking a lot in the last few years but I'll be honest, it was mainly by playing smartly against weaker sides
This World Cup qualifier performance was very poor as you can see, defensively we are a very strong side(Managed a draw against Qatar who were the recent Asian Cup winners) but our forwards apart from Sunil Chhetri aren't that good. Under Igor Stimac, our new coach, we are trying to change our game style from long ball gameplay to a more pleasing to watch, passing and holding gameplay. Because of that, our results aren't so good but even if we don't get the results, we still need that transition to improve our level of football.
Some of the recent highlights:
India vs Afghanistan
India vs Bangladesh (Bengali commentary)
India vs Oman (Arabic commentary)
Famous win against Thailand in the Asian Cup

Congratulation! Third goal was beautiful.
It was scored by Sahal who is a promising Indian midfielder. The 1st goal was scored by Chhetri who is has the same number of international goals as Messi but again he hasn't played against top countries. However, he is our best forward and captain and is still playing even though he is 37.

Football is slowly getting more and more popular and fans are expecting much more from the team. Before Igor Stimac became the coach, our gameplay was mostly longball which isn't a whole lot attractive. But since he became the coach, he is trying to develop a more passing type of football. The results haven't been very good under his tenure as it was a complete shift to a different style of gameplay but now slowly we are starting to see improvement with more attractive gameplay.

U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers
India U23 2 - 1 Oman U23
Nice win against a strong Oman team. In the next game we narrowly lost to UAE U-23 by 1 goal but that was due to poor refereeing where the referee gave a penalty when it was clearly not. Our last game will be against Kyrgyz Republic.

India 1 - 2 Bahrain
Due to visa issues, only 14 players were available for the coach to play, so it wasn't our main squad. Roshan Singh who gave the assist to Bheke for the goal seems like a good future prospect.
