Subject: Israel [en]
Here is an explanation
Hebrew (עִבְרִית, ‘Ivrit) is a Semitic language of the Afro-Asiatic language family with strong roots in both Chaldean, the language of Chaldea and Biblical Aramaic. Modern Hebrew is spoken by more than seven million people in Israel and used for prayer or study in Jewish communities around the world. It is the official language of Israel, though English and Arabic are also used there.[1] Hebrew is also spoken as a mother tongue by the Samaritans, though today fewer than a thousand Samaritans remain. As a foreign language it is studied mostly by Jews and students of Judaism and Israel, archaeologists and linguists specializing in the Middle East and its civilizations and by theologians.

yes, we are exceptional, and we do not feel bad about it

And we know English well enough to travel around the world

so, I have purely theoretical question... If I decide to move to Israel, and I would like to stay there and live there... Can I live there on 100% if I know only english? (I mean, I don't speak hebrew, arabic, only few other languages - slovak, czech, english, little bit french and german and I understand polish). Can I find a work, go to cinema or date with girls, find a friends, using only english?
A. In General - you can. We have many new immigrants that come with no Hebrew and most of them manage well even before they learn the language. As for getting a job in English - you can, but there is a limited number of such jobs, in which hebrew is not necessary. If you work in high tech, for instance, you probably won't have a problem, especially if you are good. As for TV and cinema - we don't dub, so all our American / English movies and programs are in Englisg with subtitles. Even animated movies for children - you have a dubbed version and an English version in the cinemas. I suppose dating won't be a serious problem either.
B. Although you can manage without English - it will still be much easier with Hebrew and that is why you have in Israel an intensive and very efficient course of Hebrew, Which is called Ulpan.
After few weeks of 5 hours per day, you speak and read Hebrew quite good. The Ulpan is given for free by the state to new immigrants, but I suppose you will have to find a privaye one and pay for it. (if you get an Israeli girlfried that speaks poor English - you will find that you learn Hebrew even faster)

ok, listen I need help. In our country is one girl. She is daugher of one of slovak managers, who plays SK for a longer time. And at sunday she "buy" a match... She wrote on forum, to her opponent to let her win, by high score, that she could have a chance to promote to the higher league promotely and not playing play-off round. She wrote this:
"Today, you could let me win. I've got a real chance to promote directly to the 2nd league, and you can dispose of me and get weaker team - bot."
She won the league 2 times in a row, but only thanks to help of her father, who's helping her with tactic, otherwise she would sucks... So they offered him "chance" to get rid of her, and then they will have a chance to win league, 'cause bot team is really weak. While her father is helping her with managing, it would be very hard for them to beat her.
Her opponent put all the players in a corcner and she won 23:0. This smells to me, like a breaking of fair-play rules... It wasn't own decision of her opponent, she asked him for do that. And he agreed... I've got a screen.
Now I would like to get this case to the authorities, but I can't do it in my country. We don't have mod, our mod plays czech league, and doesn't enough time to handle slovak forum. And I think he wouldn't help me either. Community is on side of her, when I mentioned this, thay starting to attack that I'm the one who's breaking rules, 'cause I let play my B-team in a 1st league for 4 matches, because I played National Cup in last rounds, reach final, and wanted to play with the best I had to try a win it. It's crazy to call me "breaker of rules" due to this...
I want to ask you, what are you thinking about it? It's against rules? I think I read something similar in rules, but I can't find it, and rules are really long... Do you think I should report it to your mod? Is he normal? Write your opinions please and help me solve this situation... I have when someone actiong like this, when I want something, noone let me win, I have to fight, as most of us...
