I almost start to dislike Israel, because of mottibenari... :) I never played in Israel yet (on SK) and it's hot ground! Obviously refrees in your country are against away teams...

When (in which age) you have to fulfil your army duty servise? Right after ending of school? If you're going on collage, it's delayed?

And how it is look like... What are you doing. You can go home everyday, or you have to be 3 years in barracks, except some vacations... What about sallary?

Can you pick up specialisation? Your commanders are trying to be like those in american movies? (ours sometimes trying :D) And what it basic weapon in your army (it should be some kind of assalaut rifle)?

It is not possible to divulge all information and some sort of military secrecy needs to be obtained but I'll try to tell you the basics...

Once you finish high school you usually have between 1-6 months off, depending on your recruitment date. There exceptions but I'm talking about the average here.
Military service is a must, compulsory, a civil duty and an honour to serve your country. We are a tiny country with a very small standing army, so the bulk of the military is made up of the reserves.

Anyhow, during your last year in high-school, you are usually called in for a couple of one-days checks, exams and tests, ranging from the pure medical examinations to aptitude tests. If you are destined to be a "regular" soldier, ie armoured corps (tanks), artillery, infantry, etc... that would be the end of your tests. But if your initial status (stamina, IQ, education) are good enough, you can volunteer for something else, be it the Pilot's course, special units, naval officer and more. If you do volunteer for these units, then you are called a few more times, up to 6 or 7 times during this last high school year for more tests.
During those days and on the first couple of days once you are recruited, you will meet with an army shrink and sorting officer who will ask you for your preferences and then pending on availability and your status, he will try to match you up with your preferences, but it's not always the case and you might end up with your 2nd or even 3rd choice.
Our army is a fighting army and unless you are severely disabled or have some very special dispensation, you need to serve your country for three years. We do not have barracks so to speak as other more "peaceful" armies have. There are training camps and HQs but regular units are hard working units contributing constantly to the maintenance of a country that has to defend itself all the time from various threats, be it suicide bombers or nuclear weapons.
In the last 60 years, no other country in the world has fought so many wars, not to mention guerrilla and terrorist threats, thus our army is nothing at all like what you see across Europe or in the movies. It is an active, constantly operational army with very little funding for training and perhaps the most experienced in the world.

I will return to your question - If during one's service you wish to become an officer and you are deemed suitable, then becoming an officer usually involves an extra couple of years in the military. The military invests in its officer cadets and expects them to stay a little longer for that. The longer and bigger the investment in a cadet, the longer you are required to stay more. As you climb through the ranks you get to do different jobs, be in charge of more people and operate bigger and more sophisticated systems.

Soldiers in regular fighting units, be it infantry or tanks or any other go home for a very short weekend every couple of weeks on average but if your unit is currently operational or involved in some action, then it might lengthen for much longer. Obviously cooks and clerks and other supportive roles get to go home more often and some who do an office job, whom we derogatorily call - Jobniks, get to go home every evening.

The basic assault rifle of our military can be either a version of the m16 or the Israeli assault gun you should look up. Every soldier, from Infantry to F15 pilots have some specialty knowledge be it a medic, a tank gunner or naval electronic systems officer. So every soldier besides his basic infantry training get to learn a few other skills and the list is endless.

However and a million times more important then learning how to operate a weapon, are the skills both technical and social you learn in the army. Like I said, this is an active fighting army so if as a young officer at the age of 19 or 20, you lead into battle 20 other 18 year old soldiers and their lives are in your hands, you must learn many other skills, responsibilities and attitudes. There is nothing worse in the whole world I can tell you, not disease, not natural disasters or anything that is worse than a commander's duty to go to inform the parents of a dead soldier that he was his commander when he died, or see them afterwards in a funeral.
As a young soldier or officer, you learn to cooperate with your friends because all your lives depend on it. You learn to share and support and develop friendships that are more valuable than any other type of friendship you can find in the "civilian" world.

Because our army is the "People's army" in the real true sense of the word, your boss at work who might actually fire you for being incompetent, might be a regular soldier under your command tomorrow in the reserves. So the army is a great "leveler", making each and every one of us equal.

This is a tiny bit about our military service... don't hesitate to ask more :)

"Israeli assault gun" what is it? Name and picture... Our regular and basic weapon is SA vz. 58. In translate it means Machine gun version '58 (in 1958 was developed). Also it is called machine gun, but it is assalaut rifle. Czechoslovakian made, caliber 7,62 mm, it is similar to russian AK-47, but it is different from it, and in test it get even better results then AK.

And modern version of it.

Every soldier in our army has to be capable to operate with this weapon.

And I have few other questions. We have already profesional army, only that one who wants gets in an army, no more "civil duty". But I want to ask, if there is some chicane in your army, because before we made profesional army, chicane was normal here, older soldiers hazed rookies...
And another, if your people wants to go in army. Because here, when we had civil duty, many people were tried to avoid army servise...

it really looks like AK
the Israeli assult gun is called Tavor

1. Your SAvz58 is an AK47 replica which similarly made in some 50 other countries from China to Brazil. The basic concept (mechanism) was invented by the Germans in WWII and after the Soviet AK47 success has been copied by everyone. Israel too used to make the Galil assault rifle, also a version of this gun but on the more standard 5.56 calibre.
The new Israeli assault rifle is the Tavor, you can find plenty of pics on Google which is totally different.
The problem with the AK47 and its various version are its size, weight and usual 'wrong' calibre and all these do not fit the modern battle ground.

2. I am not sure what is "Chicane"?

3. Hazing - is still a part of many units, some simple fun and some dangerous. As long as no one gets killed the army allows it. Some years back there was a practice by an air force unit to haze new soldiers by tying them to the stop cable for short landings, like the ones aboard aircraft carriers and after a soldier died, this was stopped. Other units usually do something far less risky mostly because we risk our lives in battle and such silly pranks are best reserved for more 'bored' armies.

4. Yes, there people who try to avoid the service but overall their percentage is small in the population. Because it's a people's army here, this is frowned upon and receives much criticism. There is a great debate whether the numbers of those who try to evade service is growing or not and what are the reasons for it. But overall, most of the population understands the need to protect the country and that everyone should contribute their fair share.
In many work places you will be asked about your military service and if for some obscure reason you didn't do it, your chances to land a job vs another similar candidate who did, is smaller. Our society is a very socialist one - relatively, and this military service is considered one of the corner stones of our nation, regrettably but proudly!

Our SAvz58 weights 4kg fully loaded, little bit more if you're using light/laser device. About "wrong" calibre, 7,62mm is for killing and 5,56 is for harming... When you're wearing armour vest 5,56 does not penetrate throught it, while 7,62 penetrate even trough kevlar.

Chicane, we called it šikana, I checked dictionary and it's chicane. It is when you're hazing your younger comrades, here was popular "Jukebox" for example, you was put into army cabinet/closet or how to name it... Someone put coin into it and you have to sing... Or they sent you in that cabinet downstairs etc. To scare you, for their fun...
