OK... here's the deal.
I don't know about prices because they change everywhere and most times it's best to get a good deal from someone who can bring you a camera from NY or HK.
For picture quality, Canon and Nikon are the best in the world though their cameras tend to be rather expensive. For cheap and alright quality and price, go for a Minolta or Olympus or even Fuji.
My personal recommendation for a mid-range quality and price is always Sony. Good quality and features.
However... you can many times find deals with Panasonic, or Toshiba or many of the other electronics makers. Whatever you do, do NOT believe the sales pitch the shop owners tell you. They always sell or recommend the merchandise they work with.
For best advise look at some of the online digital camera magazines and go by what they recommend.

1. Leika do NOT make reasonable electronic/digital cameras.
2. The old fashioned Leika's for the 36mm film are long gone. The modern leikas are crap. If you have one of the old models than they are gold, but the new ones are just sad.
3. The only good product Leika makes today are lenses and even these do not match the level of modern day Zeiss lens.
4. If you're after old fashioned camera go for the Nikon F2 Titanium. The old time classic though you'd probably have to pay a few thousand dollars to get a good one that's still working. Those F2s could be used to kill elephants and were superb but are only kept by a few die-hards today.

Depends on the model, age, condition, etc... I'm not a big fan of Kodak cameras. I'm also not a big fan of buying used cameras... maybe you should save some and wait till you can buy a new one...? Good luck on Ebay :)

I have an old Sony camcorder which I bought as it came out as a brand new top of the line model. It had 1.1 mega pixel and in 2000 that was the best.
I'm using it until today and it makes fantastic video and stills. That is because Sony has great QA for its products. Go for Sony.
But if you want something cheaper than Panasonic and JVC are also an option.
