Malaysia vs Moldova Analsyis - mysprs
- First Goal
This goal starts from Mazlan, defender (fullback) mistake to clear a clear cut ball and award a throw in. The penalty is awarded in the throw in setup by Moldova's.
I think this show the importance of secondary skills to defender. Mazlan is one the best defender with pace and defender skills in Malaysia. However, he is quite weak the secondary skills in technique, playmaker and passing.
And immediately, after the throw in, Mazlan again give the ball cheaply, and lucky this time it hit the post.
The team needs to work out whether great primary skills without good secondary skills are good enough. However, glad to say Mazlan training is in line the player that the team want him to be. The trainer is willing to corporate with the team.
- Second Goal
I think this is positiioning problem, defend too deep without defensive midfielder covering up. When you want to depend higher, you need good pacy and high stamina defender on my opinion, and exactly we don't have that. I think play a bit deeper is a good idea, but too deep is not so good. So, a balance need to be strike, and also it will be suicide, if you play your defenders too deep, but with bad positioning of the defensive midfielders.
- Third Goal
Same like second goal, defend too deep and DM not cover weil. Since this is a big problem for the NT, I would suggest the team to look into the possibility of having 2 DM in some matches, as our DM is not exactly pacy to cover important positions. Hong is a good candidates to play in this role, whilst letting the defenders pickup the skills, we might need to play 1 striker in certain matches.
- Fourth Goal
I see improvement on positioning of corners, we have 5 in the box now for conner, in some cases of throw in we have 7 in the box. But still even of 5 defenders in the box, the opponents place the striker in the right position that are not covered by all 5 in the box. Luck is part of the game, we don't know exactly where the opponent striker will be placed in the box, we can't put everyone in the box. And the opponent striker just in the right place at the right time.
- Fifth Goal
Individual mistake by Firdaus. He has very high pace and defender skills, the best in country, but he has very low stamina, that is why previous NT coach don't play him alot. I would say, can only play 45 minutes, whilst try to get his trainer give him some stamina. He supposed to sub out at 55 minutes, so condor spot this too, however, he is 1 minute away from avoiding we concede the fifth goal.
This is an example, of great talents from Malaysia players that previous NT coach does not work out their weaknesses. And he is 24 years old now, higher priority should be given to younger generation defenders to build their experience. The team need to decide whether to continue fielding him, or field weaker but younger defender.
Points
1. Pace and defensive cause penalty. First 2 goals are penalty, and because the defenders lack of both skills against better opponents. This the areas needs training.
2. Ibrahim Hong absent is reasonable. Hong is the most talented prospect in Malaysia. But he is not exactly an AM, DM or Winger now. His training is gears toward DM, and he will take over Rushanizan place in a season time, as Rushanizan already 24. I see condor88 tactic is base on DM that have high defensive skills, AM that have high playmaking, passing skills, and wingers that have good pace and technique. It is arguable whether Hong or Rashid should play, in the right. Whilst, Hong is slightly better than Rashid in this position right now, but Rashid needs playing time, he is the future for Malaysia to play in this position. I think the midfielders selection is a good call, at least for experimenting purpose.
3. I see the reasoning of injury affecting this match. We have many strikers good one. But not so many pacy with good technique, only both injured strikers can do a job in the tactic played. Just see the first chance Malaysia have, if both the injured strikers are playing, I am very sure it is a goal for Malaysian. Sumardi and Ungku, is slightly slow to convert the chance.
And also injury to Zan Defender, should be in condor team and also Rais Dermawan, the best AM midfielders in Malaysia. But he is old, his injury will give chance to younger player to stake a claim in the team.
4. Positioning in set pieces and corner is good, we have 7 defenders in the box whilst defending, but if you have lower defending and pace skills, there is always a chance for penalty.
Conclusion
- Overall, I am happy on what I see, as some common sense are there. Of course, there are still room for improvements highlighted above. The team will work on this. Certain things, Malaysian users are right to demand immediate improvement, like defenders position. Whilst certain thing, you just need to give the team to settle.
What more important is identify the players that can play the way we want them to play, and work closely with the owners. THis is a must! Immediate improvement of mistakes will be tried to be rectified. But immediate expectation of good result against much better opposition is just not possible.
All the above is my opinion, not the team opinion, as I say we will work closely. On future, this type of mail will only send to teams, as we does not want the other country NT coach know so much. But for a start, I think I need to let you all informed, the issues in NT and we are working into it.
If you see what I see, yes, we aware of it, will work on this. If you see what I don't see, you are welcome to drop mails to the team to give your valuable input.

Watched about half the match and the general positioning looked good at the start, but is full of holes, the defense line is really quite novice.
Having them get ~33% goal accuracy with you getting 0/5 is unlucky however.

very good analysis! on one what is not of agreement: Mazlan is one the best defender with peace and defender skills in Malaysia. However, he is quite weak the secondary skills in technique, playmaker and passing. Mazlan does not have secondary much high but however they are adapted to play
