I think there is not many people in Malaysia who prefer football as a major sport , so there aren't so many players :)

I like football very much but after working, i do not have much time to play.

I use to play indoor after join college last time (at least once a week). During my high school time i went for selection for Perak team, but not selected.

I can't really see how they select player. And 1 thing i don't understand is why almost whole malaysia team is malay, only few indian, without chinese. Is chinese that bad? I don't think so. Or is it because this is MALAYSIA? Actually there are a lot discussion about it but no one really know the actual answer.

Sorry but you are entirely wrong in that assumption.

Malaysians love their football. We play it everywhere we can. I (and my friends) used to play football on a daily basis and supported my local (state) and national team with more passion than my support for any other teams. I used to go for every home match and some away games as well. Today my passion is strongest for a foreign club team playing thousands of miles away. What happened?

Previously football in Malaysia was a joy to watch. The teams consisted of the best players who gave their all for the benefit of their club and more for their country. Players were selected purely on merit and teams were made up of great talents from all races/religions etc.

We were giants of Asian football even though we had almost no facilities (teams like South Korea, Japan and China were on par with us if not slightly intimidated). Then politics and race/religion became a factor and Malaysia slid down the tubes to the rubbish they are today. The problem starts from school selections all the way up to the National selection of players.

I was never a gifted player but funnily enough I was never good enough for selection whilst I was in Malaysia but managed to get into my college team when I was in England (by that time it was too late to build on the fundamentals or aspire to be better)....... I have friends who could (still) run rings around the national players and yet have been prevented from even representing their local sides, schools etc. I am sure there are multitudes of malaysians from all walks of life that can give you similar stories. Add to this corruption/bribery, a lack of discipline or proper work ethics, overzealous rewards for minimal achievement and the general contentment of our "star" players to receive absurd amounts of money for being mediocre .....now you begin to get an idea of what makes Malaysian football the crap it is. The above is just the tip of the iceberg.

We have a larger population than Australia.... and we are a lot larger than Singapore but could not hope to compete with either on a regular basis much less to beat them.

Honestly, there are no excuses. The Malaysian team is what the Malaysian system has created. Getting trashed is what we deserve. I will just keep on supporting those foreign teams that couldn't care less if I existed or not.

hey wooikeim im not defending the malays :) but majority of local football are also malays.. we hardly see chienese ppl in local football.. maybe thats the reason most of them are malays.. theres alot of indians too in local football compare to chienese... no offense ya... there is chienese players last 2 years ago played for NT.. but both of em already retired.

@ pele: we are very passionate in football but the prob is that parents in this country dont see the future or hope in malaysia football so they not encourage their kids to be part of it..

Half time, Malaysia defender really work really hard in this last game. Young striker Safee got the pace to play up front, good news. Really hope can conceed less than 3 goals. But the first goal should not be a penalty.
