Mithos [del] to All
The world cup draw has been made!

Group G

1. España
2. Danmark
3. Ireland
4. Bolivia
5. Hong Kong
6. Ecuador

There are 15 groups, and 30 teams from 1st and 2nd and 2 from 3rd place will qualify.

What do you think? Do we stand a chance? I myself think we can become 4th. We've beaten Bolivia before!

Nice overview Sharky :-)

It funny to see that the most important players of the first three teams are relatively old and last three teams young. Especially Ecuador..
2009-01-12 18:22:39
In the last world cup qualification, Hong Kong left with a humiliating 0 points. The one before that, I managed to get 7 points and a 5th place for Hong Kong. I'm confident we can get much better results this time, and it is not unrealistic to set the target at the 4th place.
2009-01-12 18:32:35
I think that Ecuador, Bolivia and Hong Kong are very close at playerskills and ratings, so a good tactic is needed against them.

Ireland is , imho, just a bigger step to take, but with a bit of luck , you might stand a chance. 4th place would be a very good effort in this qualification for Hong Kong.

Danmark and Espana, don't even think about getting a point from those two teams, it might be an achievement to score against them.

In about 10, the first WC match will begin. I'm very curious. Ecuador is ranked pretty low, even though their ratings are pretty high, almost as good as ours. Who knows, maybe even better! Luckily, ratings aren't everything, but it does mean it will be a tough match.
I think we have to win though, I wouldn't be satisfied with anything less.
2009-01-24 19:35:04
I'm not really happy with this draw. I really hoped we could leave the pitch with 3 points, but alas. Better get ready for next week!
2009-01-31 13:04:44
Teribble. Apart from the 1 goal we scored, this was a terrible match. Tactic didn't work even half as much as I had hoped or expected.

edit: You Chi Yuk injured :(

:-(
too bad the tactic did not work out.

I think you talk about the defense strategy that did not work out as you hoped for?
because the Wingbacks were too far away from the wingers of Danmark.

Also very crowded in the penalty box, too many players of Hong Kong, I think. The players were running too fast backwards to their own goal.

The injury of Chi Yuk is not good at all. Fortunately there is no WC to play next week, so he can recover.

Today, we'll face an even tougher opponent thanDenmark, namely Spain. We lost to the Danish with 8-1, but they managed to defeat them with 4-2. Defeat is almost inevitable, and the only thing I can really do is trying to make it difficult for them so that they don't score too many goals.

5 players are injured. I will play with Gong Wo Yau even though he is also injured, but it's only a slight injury and he was also able to play last wednesday. Besides, he's one of our best defenders and there are simply no others to take his place.
2009-02-14 12:22:21
Even though we lost, only a 5-0 loss against Spain is not bad at all! The tactic worked, and our GK did very well. :)

Sadly a 12 day injury for Tsui Siu Chee though :/

that's a very nice result and a well played tactic. Spain has a very good team. On the NT ranking they are on spot 1.

Too bad for the injury.
2009-02-21 09:33:54
I overslept, sorry I didn't post the line-up before the match.

I used essentially the same tactic as last week since it worked so well against Spain, with only a few minor adjustments. It didn't do as well today it seems.
Their strikers were nicely placed, and the positioning of the Irish during defensive throw-ins was very good.
