Subject: National Team Games

This time is a draw. Quite lucky indeed. The situation is that our attacker is too slow and hardly dribble through the Russians and the Russian attackers are keep dribbling our defenders.

Any advice for improvement in tactic?

GRATS ^^

1:1 its good ;)

what are the strikers pace/tech combo in points?

shang wai kwoks is 18 and his striker level is high enough to score goals, he has nabbed a few in my last few games as an ATT (played most of his career as MID for training purposes)

because as you say, your strikers cant get past the defence, or hang on to the ball when they are past it so there isnt any point in having a huge amount of striker when it doesnt help a lot anyway.

And always remmeber form, its plays a huge part in how players play. Of course for club teams you dont have much choice, but I know our NT manager is reluctant to playing anyone in less form than formidable

and?! :))) good result;)

The reality is 1 shot (post) and 0 goal. The Russians scored two, one for themselves and one for us.

He asked me about the 4-3-3, these I described are the basics to use the 4-3-3, then if I'd know Hongkong players' skills I'd advice also for a tactic :)

I've not seen the match yet 'cause of server problems, anyway 1-1 against Russia, great result, I know that NT well, Sponkie in the past seasons did a great job for them :)

I tried to put more players from bot teams to get some idea about their skill in the last game. 1-0 is not very bad considered that the opponent is much stronger, nonetheless some problem of the H.K. team begin to fade out : the passing of the midfielder is not good enough (The best passers whom I know has only very good-excellent passing), the striker`s technique is not very good (very good - excellent technique are of little use), making it hard to dribble through opponent. Any advice regarding this or the game?

Very good result, and we can improve much more the tactic :)

in particular I think the two wings were too much wide, so it was more difficult for them to "be in the game". Narrower wings means a stronger midfield and more accuracy in the passes (as the distance between them is inferior), but of course they must have more speed to cover a larger size of the field.

Also the two centralforwards were too wider each other and too far from the midfield, so they had to make the 1 vs 1 against Bosnian defenders, and the only 3 shoots are a proof of that.

Tomorrow if I have enought time I will post there some screens of the match with my "tactical opinion" :)

Took a quick look at the match (mainly 2nd half) and I think the result was good and the fact you used different players to get an idea of their skills was great.

A couple of suggestions I would add is when they have a goal kick, you have almost no players in the goal box to contest the ball. Instead of having the players spaced all the way to the goal, one or two should be suficient to stop throw ins on that side, with 3-5 in the goal box.

Also looking at bosnia i hergovia (sorry bout the spelling) tactics, 3 of the previous 4 games before this match they used that tactic, with only 3 players at the back, it would be a great idea to use a winger to get on the outside of their defenders. You don't even need someone with a lot of passing as long as they have high tech or pace because if they can draw out just one defender, then that leaves two v two and the strikers should be able to get shots off around 50% of the time with a bad passer

Overall I think you are doing great with the national team, and your willingness to listen to more experienced players has shown with how well hong kong are doing

I've finished, here you are:

How I wound positionate the players in this kind of 4-4-2
A higher defence means that opponent's forwards will almost always be in offside. Plus that, your defenders will stop opponent's mid and pass towards your mids positioned forward.
Of course you need skilled defenders to do it, and I don't advice to use a high defence against strong teams (like for instance Italy or Polska)

Attacking throw in positions
Thorow-ins are the best way to score a goal in these matches in which you can't surpass the opponent's defence because it's too strong. Your mids will surely pass the ball in the area and the centralforwards will shoot before the defenders wills top them.
You may make the wing back go forward to put the ball in game, but I advice to do it only if your defenders are strong enough to play in a defense with 3 defenders.

Attacking
Let's attack! All forward! The winger (number 10) will go on the wing and cross for your centralforward. Otherwise the winger will suddenly pass to your offensive mid (number 11) who will shoot or pass towards the centralforwards.

Opponent's throw-in
You must stop the opponent as soon as the ball will reach him. For this reason your mids must be positioned like vultures to steal the ball to the opponent as soon as he will get it. For this reason your defence has not to be too low.

Another opponent's throw-in
Also in this pic you can see how a counterattack is easy to do as his defence is positioned, as we say in Italy, "like the dick" :D

General positionings during play
I use a very narrow midfield because this way the passes are easier to do and if one mid loses the ball his teammate next to him will suddenly get it back.

Another general positioning
This is a set piece in the midfield. As you can see the opponent has no protection from the mids as his mids are all offensive. This is the greatest gift for your wingers, who will go on the wings and cross for your centralforwards.

Another attacking view
Here you can see how easily your wingers could put in the area a lot of super crosses for your centralforwards :)
Of course the centralforwards must be real centralforwards, so don't make them go back to the midfield, otherwise you will never score a goal because nobody will receive the crosses from the wings!

Hope it will help you :)))
