Dev Diary #84: International Cup

  • Geston
  • 2025-12-03

Season #75 is slowly coming to an end. Ahead of us is the next one, #76, whose opening falls on a special time of the year – the holiday. The season itself will also be special, because you, dear managers, will gain the opportunity to compete in brand-new competitions for the first time.

International Cup

The new competition will replace the current Champions Cup, which only a few could enter. This change is significant, because in the refreshed format everyone will be able to take part. The entire structure will be divided into multiple levels to ensure there is space for every team. Within a single level, there may be several parallel tournaments, depending on the tier. At the top tier there will be one tournament, at the second tier two parallel tournaments, at the third tier four, and so on.

Each tournament will include 128 teams from different countries, split into 32 groups of 4. The group stage will use a home-and-away format, guaranteeing each team 6 exciting matches during the first six weeks of the season. After the group stage, the knockout phase begins. The top two teams from each group (64 teams total) will advance. The next six rounds, without return legs, will determine who will ultimately lift the cup.

The excitement does not end there, because within the competition you will fight not only for victory. You must avoid relegation or secure promotion to a higher tier of international play. Reaching the eighth round as one of the final sixteen teams guarantees promotion. Finishing last in the group results in relegation.
Exceptions to these rules may occur if teams lose their owners during the competition and become bot-controlled. Such teams will be relegated first, giving active teams a chance to avoid demotion despite poor results.

The first season will be played as a test in an arcade format, although promotions and relegations will still take place. Your players will not receive training, you will not risk injuries, and you will not earn ticket income. After this test season, International Cup fixtures will become fully official matches with all their pros and cons.

Height, weight, BMI of the player

  • Geston
  • 2025-09-28

For many seasons, unconfirmed theories about the height and weight of players have been circulating among users of the Sokker community. Among the many disputes, the prevailing belief was that these parameters had not been implemented in the match engine, but had only been included in the rules of the game alongside unfulfilled announcements.

----

Excerpt from the rules (revised):

4. The player - part about height and weight

Height
A taller player has a better chance of winning a header.

Weight
If a player's weight is too low in relation to their height, they have insufficient muscle mass. Similarly, if a player's weight is too high in relation to their height, they are overweight. In both cases, deviating from the optimal BMI has a negative impact on player performance:
- acceleration - players with an optimal BMI have the best start to the ball - however, the maximum speed remains unchanged and depends on the player's pace
- fatigue - players with an optimal BMI tire more slowly - the further the BMI deviates from the optimal value, the faster the player tires

BMI (body mass index) is the ratio of weight to height calculated using the formula:
BMI = weight / (height*height)

The ideal BMI for a player in Sokker is 23.75.

The weight and height of players are noticeable in 3D matches. Players clearly differ in height, and heavier players are larger than lighter ones.
The weight of a player will change depending on training, matches played and injury, although this has not been implemented yet.

----

We are publishing this information to clearly and definitively state that the height and weight of players were implemented into the engine many years ago and are used as described in the rules.

Dev Diary 83: Corrections to the sales tax calculation formula

  • kryminator
  • 2025-08-17

Some time ago, we modified the method of how the player sales tax is calculated. The goal of this change was to limit short-term player sales. Currently, the base tax is 8% of the sale value, to which a second component depending on the time player spent at the club, is added.

This change affected not only those trading in players but also a broader group of users. Our goal was not to restrict trading itself, so we decided to modify the current formula.

The base tax remains unchanged at 8% of the total player sale price. The second component, based on the player's time spent at the club, will be charged not on the entire sale price, but solely on the profit from the sale of the player.

This means that if you sell a player for an amount equal to or less than the amount for which they were bought, you will only pay 8% of the base tax - regardless of how quickly the transaction occurs.

The correction is effective from 16.08.2025.

The Game is back online!

  • 2025-08-03

We’re happy to announce that Sokker.org is now back online – the game has been restored on our new cloud-based server and is fully operational. Thank you for your patience and understanding during the recent technical issues.

To address the disruption, all game events have been shifted by one week, ensuring the calendar remains in line with the original schedule. League matches will resume on Wednesday, just as originally planned.

All transfers that were scheduled to end on Wednesday or later have been canceled. Any fees related to those transfers will be refunded over the coming days.

The server failure accelerated our move to the cloud, and we are now taking the opportunity to test and fine-tune the new environment. We encourage you to play arcade matches to help us optimize performance further.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience – the issue was caused by a failure on the data center’s side and was not related to ongoing game development.

As compensation, every user will receive 7 days of Plus, which will be activated shortly.

Dev Diary 82: Automatic release of NT-players from bot teams.

  • Donaldo
  • 2025-02-11

Since time immemorial, the Sokker community has been complaining of the fact that when a team loses its owner, the development of many promising players has been severely hindered. In the past, we tried to address this issue by giving administrators additional tasks, but there was no doubt that this solution was far from optimal.

Last weekend, we began testing the automatic transferlisting of u21 national team players from bot teams. This weekend, you can expect the full implementation of this feature.
We believe this long-awaited functionality will positively impact many aspects of the game.

We have divided the players into two age groups: U21 and seniors, applying different criteria for each group to determine whether a player is eligible to be listed on the transfer market.

Players under 21:
- will be listed on the transfer market every Saturday, regardless of the season week,
- only if they are either, currently called up to the national team OR having played at least one match for the country.

Senior players:
- will be listed on Saturdays but only during weeks 1, 7, and 13 of each season (to ensure fair competition at the league level),
- only if they have played at least one match for the national team, as recorded in the stats.

The timing of players being listed on the transfer market depends on the country of origin and corresponds to the default time for arcade matches in that country. Players from the same country will be listed with five-minute intervals. If a players does not find a new team, he will remain on their current bot team and will not be listed again in subsequent date.

We recognize that the initial operation of this system might result in a substantial number of players being listed. Therefore, during the upcoming weekend, senior players will be listed with an age restriction of up to 30 years (inclusive). Over time, this process should stabilize, ensuring a steady but moderate influx of players.

* Please note: This weekend listing of u21 players will be stopped, to avoid having too many players on the Transfer List.
