Subject: [Idea] Merge of small countries/leagues

2023-03-05 05:23:15
No offense, but you have no idea what a trash budget I have as a new player.

Even if I had a spare 200k lying around - and I don't, I used it on adv trainees and coaches - I couldn't afford the weekly pay these '50 match score' players would demand.

Here's one example I just scraped up: https://sokker.org/player/PID/35786059

This guy, other than stamina, is literally no better than who's on my team now...and his wage is triple what I'm paying a similar 20 year old.

Wouldn’t worry too much about Mikoos. They have never seen the issue (and instead likes to come up with other discussions to illustrate how it’s not the sponsorship/gate receipts that’s the issue and rather a flaw that everyone else is making resulting in our issues). I’m not saying they’re wrong on those aspects (we could do some of those things to make it better but certainly not everything and as easily as it’s made out to be) but they still miss the point (or don’t care).

I have an idea :)

You don't need that much, 50k would be enough for good-enough players. Also not now, later when you have that spare money :)

I couldn't afford the weekly pay these '50 match score' players would demand.

You should be able to afford them after you advance to A-league, because you will get a nice boost to sponsorship money (and some boost to your ticket income, even with a default stadium, just need to raise your prices). Not necessary "50 rating players", but close enough to that. Also after season bonuses and 3 friendlies / week in that time should help you to repair your finances.

Here's one example I just scraped up: https://sokker.org/player/PID/35786059

Well, that's a weird example, you don't need to buy very old players with tragic form and terrible skill distribution :)

Here are some attackers from last week TL: very cheap, old (but not extremely old), in good form, and much better than the one you found:

Van Geel and Wrona would be a good candidates with their relatively low wages. Of course they are not great players (that's why they are cheap), but for sure good enough to help you secure points vs weaker teams playing with default tactics in A-league. 8.6k total in wages, probably less next season. That would be less than 5k wage increase if you combine buying 2 players like that with kicking out 2 worse players from your team (Zamieniecki for example). You can do the same on other positions, let's say 3 mids + 3 defs for another 20k wage increase. I'm sure sponsorship money increase will be bigger than that.

@cometer

I see the issue with new teams having terrible finances, I tried to convince Raul to make new teams situation better with bigger fan club and better stadium, but my arguments didn't work :P
Didn't come here to argue, just tried to help islander survive in higher league.

Also I have nothing against merging countries, I would even be fine with merging all of the countries in sokker. I understand that top teams in very small countries get much worse income than clubs in bigger countries, and that playing in very small countries is boring. The thing is a big country like Poland is not a paradise for most teams, 80% of human teams play in 5th and 6th division, almost 40% of human teams play in 6th division with a lot of bots, also getting a really bad sponsorship and ticket money. And when you advance from 6th division (where avg ratings are usually somewhere between 25 and 30) you go to 5th division where avg ratings are higher than 50... If I was a new club I'd rather be in islander's position than being a new club in Poland advancing to much harder 5th division (or being stuck in 6th division, this also happens when there are 2 other teams that are just too good) :)

Well, you are right for the first 10 seasons I recon.
In Poland, you simply need to focus on becoming stronger on financial and staff base initially. No point in having sportive plans there.
However...once you become financially stronger and you can expand your stadium and improve your staff and trainees...then you have potential to grow further.
The big difference is that you can work your way through patience and dedication in Poland and then being able to sportively and financially improve and develop further on.
In very small countries, you can say that Polish 5th league is the highest possible level to achieve. And I recon THAT is the biggest problem.

Look at those wages dude. That's what you don't seem to get.

Look at the wages on my team. I run AT A DEFICIT, If it weren't for norbert1987's away friendlies every week, I'd be running a negative deficit.

My economic situation in B is impossible, and I have no idea what A is, but at some point I'd like to have money for stadium upgrades and youth school. I believe I can survive in A in another year, so if I can sandbag my way to another year with my adv trainees in B, that's what I'm doing - given the options in front of me.

This is where your problem is - I can assure you that extra sponsorship + more money from tickets + more fan club members incoming each week in A-league is absolutely worth spending double your current wages (let's say 54k instead of your current 27k) compared to just staying in B-league. You shoot yourself in the foot by trying to stay in B-league.

Whatever you do, good luck.

I hear what you are saying, but more money from what tickets? My stadium isn't growing. Fan club members? I barely have 380 now. I started with 200.

If someone could tell me for certain what my economy would look like, I'd consider it, but bouncing up to A league, and then back down to B the following year seems like financial suicide to me.

- back on topic, with a more balanced international league structure, this isn't a factor.

It looks like that the merging idea is too difficult to be implemented or they don t want to do it. At the moment Cymru got 3 active and probably within a couple of years will have none. Merging Scotland, Ireland and Wales might be a good idea. Allowing small countries to naturalise players could be another idea. Perhaps the U21 should have its own youth academy. Anyhow, something should be done now.

There's actually been a large influx of American new players this past couple weeks. I have no idea where they came from, but most of the teams in my league now have human owners. I don't know how many will last, but none of them are posting in the league forum.

Can anyone do voting for this question? This is really interesting what majority of people think.
2023-04-08 22:58:42
i think they could allow an option to register a second team and it would help with lots of issues raised in this topic
2023-04-09 11:34:40
They would never agree to that. Anyway, in sokker changes take for ever and at this rate some nations won t have any active users.
2023-04-09 11:59:42
I don't understand why. You would connect those two teams, so everyone knew they are both yours and you could not make transfers between them so the ownership of the second club would not benefit the first club in any way. Users would become more active because it would be a new incentive and it could certainly help small countries that are dying out.

I became coach of NT Sakartvelo because I thought this country has some potential and unlike many other small countries, it has few active users. Boy, how I was wrong. NT has only 5 defenders, one of them is injured for 20 days now and another one is already 35yrs old. But when I saw the U21 team. WOW, that is just a disaster. There is only one acceptable player and the rest is the same kind of players I pull out of my youth school and immediately fire because I would not get a single euro from their sale.

U21 has rating 28(!). Some teams playing junior league have a higher rating. This is the player with the most games in U21 team.

No point in voting unless it's a country vote. Currently it affects many countries but few users.
But this is also the reason it's a good idea, because it opens up so many markets to people joining and buying plus
2023-04-09 13:18:43
Don't worry, most will be inactive almost immediately and basically we bots until admins finally officially bot them.

Not sure what causes it, but I have seen it happen to a number of countries, where there's a sudden massive influx of players managers that have a much lower rate of sticking around than is normal.

Whether it's a code or just someone bored creating the teams, I'm not sure
2023-04-09 13:36:48
Wow, then I should consider myself lucky, I have 2 players who look better than him :)
I still believe it would be quicker and a short term solution for a NT to have its own youth academy.
